In the 2010 VW Jetta 2.5, both knock sensors are located under the heat shield beneath the exhaust manifold. After removing the shield, you can easily spot the two sensors. These sensors detect engine block vibrations and sounds, convert them into electronic signals, and transmit them to the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU then analyzes the data to decide if ignition timing adjustments are necessary. An indication of a faulty knock sensor includes the engine feeling unusual during high-speed driving or under various load conditions. A malfunctioning knock sensor may also prevent smooth acceleration on the highway and result in decreased fuel efficiency.
The knock sensor for the 2010 VW Jetta 2.5 can be found in the engine block, cylinder head, or intake manifold, all conveniently situated under the hood in close proximity to each other.
