The transmission control module (TCM) in a 2005 Mazda3 is located at the top of the transmission housing beneath a cover. You can identify the right location by the wires leading into the cover. The TCM is responsible for managing the operation of the automatic transmission, deciding the optimal shifting times to enhance performance and prevent damage to the engine and transmission. Signs of a failing TCM include delayed gear shifts and a rough feel when changing gears while driving.
I think the 2004-2005 models have a combined ECM/TCM unit, while the 2006 and newer models should have them separate. And, yes, the TCM can be found on the transmission under the battery compartment.
I have a 2004 Mazda without the module on top, so I guess it has an integrated ECM.
I own a 2004 Mazda 3. Can you tell me where I can find the TCM?
The 2005 Mazda 3's TCM can be found at the top of the transmission.
