The TAC module in the 2003 Chevy Silverado is positioned on the driver's side firewall, beneath the corner brace. This module, known as the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module, is essentially the central processor of the Electronic Throttle Control System. Common indicators of a failing TAC module include a loss of power during acceleration, rough or slow idling, stalling, difficulty shifting gears, and the illumination of the Check Engine Light. The PCM and TAC module need to be powered up and shut down simultaneously. The PCM, or powertrain control module, is a key component in vehicles, serving as a centralized controller that encompasses both the engine control unit (ECU) and transmission control unit (TCU).
