In the 2013 Mazda3, the starter can be found deep within the engine compartment, close to the transmission. The wires leading to the starter are visible at the lower left side of the transmission housing. Simply follow these wires to locate the starter easily. A new starter will range in price from $40 to $120, depending on whether you choose aftermarket or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. If you opt to have a professional mechanic handle the replacement, expect to pay around $300 in total for parts and labor.
