On your 2005 Ford Explorer, you can locate the speed sensor on the driver's side of the transmission, secured with two 10mm bolts. If your transmission is not shifting well and your speedometer is displaying inaccurate speed readings or no speed at all, the speed sensor is likely the issue. A helpful tip: telling a state patrol officer that you weren't speeding because your speedometer reads 0 mph probably won't sway them. To replace the sensor, simply remove the bolts, disconnect the wiring harness from the old sensor, connect it to the new one, and secure it in place. This way, you'll be able to monitor your speed accurately and steer clear of speeding tickets.
The speed sensor for a 2005 Ford Explorer can be found on the output shaft of the transmission.
