The BMW X5 E53 light control module is located in the passenger side kick panel near the door on the right. While usually reliable, issues with the LCM can cause problems like headlights remaining on after turning off the car, erratic indicator flashing, malfunctioning high beams, and other unusual issues. The LCM is composed of power transistors (covered by a heatsink) and a micro-controller that includes both RAM and a customized ROM program specifically set for the car's configuration. This controller can control the outputs directly and monitor the checked inputs. If you need a new LCM after attempting all other troubleshooting steps, make sure to have your VIN ready as finding the correct one, which generally requires the same part number, can be challenging when looking for a used replacement.
