The 2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 will come from the factory with a 5.3L Vortec V8 engine as standard. There was also an option to upgrade to a larger 8.1L V8 engine. If you opt for the standard engine, it will require 6 US quarts of 5W-30 synthetic motor oil with the filter included. In contrast, the upgraded engine will need a slightly larger capacity of 6.4 US quarts with the filter included, but it will still use 5W-30 oil like the standard model. It is recommended to change the oil in these vehicles every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
