The Chevy S-10 should use dexcool antifreeze for its cooling system, as recommended by Chevrolet. This type of antifreeze is specifically made to work efficiently with the metal materials in the radiators and cooling system. It's important not to mix different coolants in your vehicle to avoid corrosion and a reduction in cooling effectiveness. If you find that your coolant is running low and you're unsure about what's already in your vehicle, you can top it off with distilled water. Though this may reduce protection against freezing temperatures, it won't cause any damage. I suggest flushing the coolant in your vehicle every 35,000 miles to maintain optimal performance.

You are completely mistaken. I own a 1986 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, and it does not use Dexcool coolant. I have visited the Chevrolet dealership, and I can assure you that you are incorrect in your statement.

The transition point is aimed at 1994 and newer s10 trucks, however, the full change didn't happen until around mid-1995. For vehicles from 1994 onwards, it's recommended to use orange Dexcool antifreeze, while those before should stick to the green type. If you have the green antifreeze and wish to switch to Dexcool, ensure to thoroughly flush the system before making the change.
