The Volkswagen Golf Mk7, made from 2015 to now, uses a CR2025 battery in its key fob. Replacing it is easy - just flip the key open, gently pry off the cover with a plastic tool, and remove the battery using a flathead screwdriver. Put in the new battery and close the cover. The CR2025 is a cheap button cell battery, sometimes costing less than fifty cents each in bulk packs. For reliable performance, it's best to choose a trusted brand like Duracell or Energizer, which offer replacements for under a dollar each.
The CR2025 key fob keeps attempting to connect with the car even when it is nearby. To preserve battery life, keep the key away from the vehicle while storing it.
To switch out the battery in the key fob for a 2016 VW Golf MK7, you'll require a 3-volt CR2032 battery.
