If your 2017 Subaru Outback lift gate is malfunctioning, there could be a few reasons for it. It might be due to low hydraulic fluid or a faulty pump. Another possible cause could be rust buildup hindering its movement. However, the most probable reason is a blown fuse. To access the fuse box, locate a small seam or crack to the left of the steering wheel on the dashboard. Use a screwdriver or prybar to open this panel. Inside, you'll find several fuses. Refer to the diagram on the back of the panel or consult the owner's manual to identify the correct fuse. Remove the fuse by pulling it out - if the thin metal strip connecting the two raised sections is broken, the fuse needs to be replaced; otherwise, it can be reinserted. It's inexpensive to get new fuses, costing around $10.

Is this a recall for a liftgate that is not working or locking properly?

There is a primary 30 amp hydraulic fuse (not labeled as such on the fuse box) along with 2 sensor fuses (with additional functions) that are not clearly labeled on the fuse box cover. You can search the Subaru website for more information. I had to inspect all the fuses, and removing them all seemed to resolve some kind of error code issue.
