Swapping out the battery on a 2000 Ford Escape is no walk in the park. The battery is cleverly hidden beneath the windshield wiper cowling. To get started, first, detach the negative battery cable from the firewall with a 13mm socket and ratchet. Make sure to wrap the cable end with tape or a rag to prevent any metal contact while you work on the battery. Then, you'll need to uncover the battery, as well as remove the air cleaner cover, air filter, and lower airbox assembly. Also, take out the wire loom grommets and position the wiring aside. Now, use a 10-millimeter socket on a ratchet to loosen and detach the positive battery cable. Lower the front part of the battery box, and unscrew the battery hold-down bracket with the 10-millimeter socket. Pull the battery towards you, undo the negative terminal, and remove the battery. To finish, just follow the steps in reverse to put in the new battery.
