In your Toyota Camry, the water temperature warning light serves to signal you if your engine is getting too hot. It accomplishes this by monitoring the coolant temperature as it exits the engine block. If the coolant surpasses a specific temperature, the light will illuminate. An overheating engine is a critical issue that you should not brush off or drive the vehicle with. Other than low coolant in the reservoir, a common reason for this warning is a malfunctioning radiator fan that fails to activate at the designated temperature. The fan is typically supposed to engage to provide extra airflow through the radiator when the vehicle is not moving quickly enough to generate sufficient airflow on its own.
The symbol that looks like a thermometer on a Toyota Camry means that the engine is getting too hot and might be overheating.
