In the Toyota Avalon, the ECT button controls the transmission electronically. You can turn it on and off by pressing the button. While you may not need to use this feature often, it can be really helpful when driving in snowy conditions. When you engage the ECT mode, your car starts off in second gear instead of first, which reduces the chances of your wheels slipping. Additionally, this feature can improve fuel efficiency and the smoothness of your gear shifts, thanks to a microcomputer that adjusts the timing between the lock-up switch and gear changes. However, you will probably find yourself driving without ECT mode most of the time.

I've been wearing mine for a long time without knowing what it was. I just switched it off, and I think I might be noticing a slight change. But I'm not completely sure.
