The "VTM4" indicator light is connected to the "Variable Torque Management 4WD System" and may be activated by various issues, including the "check engine" alert. Issues such as under-inflated tires or rear differential problems might trigger the VTM4 warning, causing the automatic suspension of AWD to prevent vehicle or transmission damage. While the VTM4 restrictions are temporarily lifted at speeds over 18 mph, it is not recommended to drive with this light on. Sometimes, a faulty knock sensor near the intake manifold can lead to this problem, with some owners attributing it to animals nesting in that spot. The light could also indicate emission problems, often necessitating the replacement of the EGR valve in such cases.
The warning lights on a 2004 Acura MDX, like the check engine light and VTM-4 light, indicate a problem with the transmission.
