The Chevy Express comes equipped with interior lights that can be adjusted to turn on either with the switch or when a door is opened. If your vehicle's lights do not turn on in these situations, it's likely due to a blown fuse. Each model year will have a different fuse panel layout, so refer to the owner's manual for the specific fuse location. Replace the blown fuse with one of the exact same amp rating to avoid further issues. Many vehicles include spare fuses, indicated on the diagram inside the panel cover.

I might not be a genius, but if he can make the light come on by flipping the switch, the problem is likely not the light bulb. As an electrician, my guess is that it's one of the small black relays located under the car's hood.
