Most automatic transmissions are at risk of serious damage if the vehicle lacks a "transmission disconnect" feature. With the exception of certain manual transmission models from 1996 to 2005, almost all Toyota RAV4 years and trims cannot be flat-towed. It is especially important not to flat-tow automatic transmission versions of the RAV4, such as the 2020 models, as the design may lead to manual operation of the transmission without proper lubrication. Some vehicles need continuous pump operation to prevent detrimental wear on the transmission components. If you're searching for a Toyota vehicle approved for flat towing, consider the Land Cruiser or 4Runner.
