If your 2010 Toyota Highlander's car alarm keeps going off unexpectedly, there's a good chance that the problem lies with the hood latch. Toyota has identified a known issue with the hood switch on certain Highlander model years (2008-2011) and has released a technical service bulletin (T-SB-0200-10) about it. Specifically, if your vehicle's VIN starts with 5TD or JTE for Hybrid models, this could be the culprit. While this was typically covered under warranty, for a 2010 model now out of warranty, you can expect to pay around $100 for a replacement part and about an hour of your time for the fix.
