The 2016 Ford Explorer can hold up to 44.96 ounces of R-134a refrigerant and uses PAG-46 refrigerant oil. For around $155, you can have the AC system recharged at the dealership. However, you can easily do it yourself by locating the charging port under the hood on the passenger side near the firewall. It's a small white hose with a black twist cap on top of a white plastic container. Simply unscrew the cap, add the required amount of freon, and screw the cap back on.
The 2016 Ford Explorer can hold up to 18 ounces of freon.
I think the capacity might vary depending on the model. I recently worked on a model that held 38 ounces.
