The capacity of the Cavalier's engine oil is 5 quarts and it requires Synthetic Motor Oil 5W-30. When you are changing the oil in the car, be sure to let it cool down for a couple of hours after parking and turning it off. This will prevent you from getting burned by the hot oil. Locate the oil pan in the engine compartment and find the drain plug underneath. Place a bucket under the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain into the bucket. Let it drain completely, which may take around an hour. Once it stops dripping, replace the drain plug and find the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to fill the oil pan to the full level, being careful not to overfill it. It's okay to be a little under, but too much oil can cause leaks and burn-off. After filling it, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're done.
