To change the battery in a Chevy Volt key fob, begin by separating the back and front sections of the fob. Inside, you'll find a 3-volt CR2025 battery, which you can replace by removing the old one and inserting a new one. These batteries, which also power watches and small gadgets, can be bought from most retailers for under $5 each. The official part number for the Volt's key fob battery is #13585728F. Flip the fob over to find a small switch at the top of the plastic panel. Press this switch with your finger or a small flathead screwdriver to release the key. Then, take off the back of the fob to expose another panel covered by plastic. Peel back the plastic and pry off the panel with a coin or flathead screwdriver. Use the flathead screwdriver to pop out the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one. Reassemble the fob by reversing the steps.
Getting a new battery for a Chevrolet Volt key fob will likely set you back between $8 and $32.
