The GMC Denali offers the choice of powered running boards that extend automatically when you approach the truck after unlocking it. This feature is designed to facilitate easier entry and exit. However, some users may find this system tiring and wish to deactivate it. To turn off the automatic running boards, turn on your vehicle without starting the engine and quickly switch off the running board disable option within 20 seconds. This will deactivate the running boards until you decide to enable them again. For a more permanent disablement, you can remove the fuse that powers the running board motors.

I can't find the switch in my 2022 Sierra Denali that you mentioned! Is there a different method to keep them turned off besides taking out the fuse?

It's the switch all the way to the right above the control panel. Just press and hold it for approximately 10 seconds with the car turned off but the key in the ignition.

We currently have a 2023 Yukon Denali at our service center, and the button to operate the running boards is located on the touchscreen display of the radio.

Make sure the engine is turned off before opening both doors, which should fully extend out. Next, open the hood and locate the fuse box on the left side at the top. Take out the #32 fuse from the box. After replacing the hood and closing both doors, the steps will stay extended and won't retract. This gives a better appearance, and they will not move back in when you start the engine.
