When putting in a brake light switch for a Ford Mustang, the first step is to take out the old one. Before doing so, check the passenger compartment fuse box to make sure the 10-amp fuse is not blown. A blown fuse will prevent current from reaching the brake switch, making it ineffective. If the fuse is intact, go to the driver's side floorboard and locate the brake switch above the brake pedal. To remove it, disconnect the electrical connector with a green and red wire. Then, twist the switch about an eighth of a turn clockwise and pull it out. Install the new switch by twisting it clockwise until it clicks into place. Remember to reconnect the electrical connection.
To take out the brake switch, start by disconnecting the battery and removing the wiring connector. Then, put the new switch into the housing.
