In most Ford Ranger models, the fuel filter is typically located along the fuel line, attached to the driver's side frame rail under the rear of the cab. It is a metallic canister that is a bit smaller than a 12-ounce beverage can. To remove the filter, you will need a few tools and wear adequate eye protection. When you first take out the fuel filter, there will still be pressure in the system. Start by disconnecting the fuel pump fuse while the engine is running to alleviate some of the pressure. Depress the green or orange tabs on the fuel filter and detach the lines. Install the new filter in the same manner, making sure not to damage the tabs during the process.
To take out the fuel filter on a Ford Ranger, you need to first release the pressure in the fuel system. The filter is located close to the fuel tank on the right-hand side.
Release the pressure from the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the connections at both sides of the fuel filter and detach the clips securing the fuel line fittings. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
Unhook the battery. Release the fasteners securing the fuel filter. Take off the fuel lines connected to the filter. Pull the fuel filter out from its mount.
Remove the air box by unclipping it and take out the filter.
