If your 2008 Dodge Avenger is displaying codes indicating a potential issue with the throttle position sensor, you may need to replace it. However, there's a method to try resetting it first to determine if it might just be a hiccup. Place your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position without starting the vehicle. Wait for all the lights to go off; keep in mind that the check engine light (CEL) may still be lit. Gently press down on the gas pedal all the way to the floor, then release it slowly back to its resting position. Turn off the ignition. Start the engine as usual and check if it responds smoothly when pressing down on the accelerator, and if the CEL has turned off. If you recently disconnected your battery, this resetting process might be all you need to calibrate the TPS.
I managed to fix the issue by pressing the pedal to halfway and resetting the light. However, the car wouldn't go above 2000 RPMs initially, so I turned it off, repeated the process, and then was able to drive a few miles at 60 mph. The problem seems to come and go, so I'm thinking it could be a sticky throttle valve or maybe just some sensor issues like with the accelerator position sensor.
In the 2008 Dodge Avenger, you can find the throttle position sensor on the right side of the engine, situated on the throttle body beneath the air filter housing.
I own a 2008 Dodge Avenger that is currently in "limp mode." Do you have any suggestions on how to reset it so that it will shift properly again?
