To reset the alarm on a 2004 Nissan Xterra, you have two choices. First, you can open the hood and disconnect the positive battery cable, leaving it unplugged for around 30 minutes. This will allow the power in the CPU to drain, prompting the system to reset itself the next time it is activated. Alternatively, you can remove the fuse from the fuse box and wait a similar amount of time. This method achieves the same result but targets only the alarm system. If you opt for disconnecting the battery, it will reset multiple systems. However, if you choose to remove the fuse, it will reset only the alarm. Just make sure to consult the fuse diagram to identify the correct fuse.
To reset the security system on a 2004 Nissan Xterra, insert the key and turn it to the "on" position for 10 minutes, then turn the key off. After waiting five seconds, you can start the car.
I drive a 2004 Xterra, and the security alarm started blaring along with the horn. Even after the horn stopped, I couldn't get the key to turn in the ignition. The lights were working, but the ignition was unresponsive. To fix this, I removed the ignition start fuse located at the bottom left corner of the fuse box under the dashboard, and then the car started up.
I have 6 additional things I've tried because my car won't start - I replaced the battery, alternator, throttle body, and brain. Now, the fan remains on and the lights won't turn off.
