To reinitialize the passlock system on a 2005 GMC Canyon, first turn the ignition key to the "Run" position for about two to three seconds. Keep the key in this position for 10 minutes. Once the security light stops flashing and remains lit, start the engine. This signals that the Passlock system has been reset and the engine should start up normally. General Motors includes the Passlock theft deterrent system in their vehicles to prevent theft. However, some consumers have reported issues when attempting to start their vehicles, indicated by the security light being illuminated. This problem may also occur when disconnecting the vehicle's battery terminals or if the battery happens to die.
