To reset the main computer or ECU of a 2002 Toyota RAV4, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable located on the driver's side of the engine compartment. Wait for at least 30 minutes before reconnecting the battery cable and starting the engine. Allow the car to idle for 15 minutes, then turn off the RAV4 and remove the key from the ignition. Insert the key and switch to the "acc" or "on" position, then back to "off" three times with 3-second intervals in between. After the third cycle, start the engine again. With your foot on the brake, shift into "drive" while keeping the brake engaged. Wait for 3-4 minutes for the ECU to reset and complete an "idle relearn". Finally, put the car in park, and the ECU should be successfully reset.
To reinitialize the electronic control unit in a 2002 Toyota RAV4, you begin by turning the ignition key to the off position, and then pressing and holding the odometer reset button. While still holding the button, turn the ignition key to the first position (first click). The computer will display a number along with the word "test.
So, what happens next? You mentioned that a number along with the word "Test" will show up. What should I do at that point? Do I just wait and watch the display showing the number and the word "Test" beside it? How can I confirm that the reset process is finished? When is it safe for me to start using my car again?
Where exactly does the test appear?
