If the immobilizer in your Audi A3 malfunctions, you could face several issues. One of the first signs of trouble is the locks behaving erratically, locking and unlocking on their own. Another symptom is difficulty turning the key in the ignition, or the engine failing to start even when the key is turned. If the car does start, you may experience reduced engine power and acceleration. Replacing the system typically costs around $200 for parts and $100 for labor. While it's not too difficult to replace it yourself, you might want to consider doing so to save some money.
To reprogram the Audi A3 immobilizer, press and hold the panic button on the key fob for five seconds to reset it. Afterwards, press the lock button once more, then move about ten feet away from the vehicle and wait for ten minutes.
