The steps for resetting the Nissan TCM can vary depending on the model and year. However, here is a common procedure to follow: 1. Make sure the shifter is in park. 2. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature for about five minutes. 3. Turn off the engine and wait for exactly five seconds. 4. Turn the key to the IGNITION position without starting the engine. You should see the A/T CHECK light come on. 5. Turn the key back to the OFF position, then to the ACC position. 6. Fully press and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor. While doing so, press the brake pedal and shift into DRIVE. 7. Turn the key to the IGNITION position for three seconds, then shift to second gear. 8. Release the gas and brake pedals, and shift to first gear. 9. Hold the brake pedal down, then press and release the gas pedal. The A/T CHECK light will flash in a specific pattern. 10. Shift to park, turn off the car, and wait for a moment. 11. Restart the car, and the TCM should now be reset.
Nick B. In automatic cars with adaptive cruise control, how do you shift from park to drive? I've never owned a modern vehicle that allows for this. I attempted your technique on my Maxima, doubting its effectiveness, and unsurprisingly, it did not work.
To reboot the Dodge Charger's TCM, start by popping the hood to locate the battery. Once you've found it, disconnect the black-negative terminal from the unit. Turn the ignition key to the "on/crank" position for half a minute, then switch it off. Next, reconnect the negative terminal to the battery and shut the hood.
How to reset the Transmission Control Module on a 2005 Maxima SL model with both automatic and manual shifting options
You have to press and keep holding down the shift lock button while shifting gears.
The reset button is located next to the gear shifter when in park. You might need to use a small allen wrench or a specific type of key. Follow the instructions carefully for the reset to be successful. I took my car to a transmission shop and they tried to sell me a new transmission for $5000, but I fixed it myself and now it works perfectly. Thanks, man! LOL!
Hey John, can you tell me which specific model you have and what issues it was experiencing? They also gave me an estimate of nearly $5,000 for a new transmission! 🤦♀️
You must have the key turned to the IGN position in order to shift the gear lever to DRIVE; it cannot be in the ACC position.
Typically, there is a red stick next to the gearshift that you can push to engage before shifting gears.
Oh my goodness, dude...you may have just prevented me from spending a fortune. The transmission control module in my 2005 Xterra 3.3 was acting up. One shop suggested installing a new transmission, while another recommended replacing the entire TCM. So, I started exploring the possibility of fixing it myself. I stumbled upon this solution. It took me a moment to understand how to override the gear shift and the Xterra's "Service Engine Light" is the one that flashes. I still need to reset the code because the light is still on, but things are looking good so far. The car has been sitting for a while, so it needs some dusting off, but seriously, a huge thank you for helping me out.
How do you start a 2015 Altima with push-button ignition?
When your computer detects an issue with your transmission, it will attempt to address the problem. However, repeatedly resetting the TCM may cause additional complications.
I have a 2009 Altima and I'm trying to reset my transmission computer. The instructions say to put it in Drive and then shift to second gear, but I only have Drive and Reverse options. What should I do next?
Beside the gear shifter, you can remove a small square plastic part. Underneath that is a button or keyhole that lets you change gears when the car is in accessory mode.
Make sure to press down on the shift lock while completing the steps listed above.
I'm sure you all know how to do it! LOL
