I assume you are referring to the electronic control unit (ECU) when you mention "computer." To reset the ECU, the easiest method is to disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery for around fifteen minutes while turning the ignition key to the "on" position. This usually works well. However, if that process seems like too much trouble and you simply want to clear the ECU, another method is to locate the ECU fuse in the engine compartment's fuse box. You can identify the correct fuse by referencing your owner's manual or an online diagram for your particular model year. Disconnect the ECU fuse for the same duration as before, and you should be good to go.
My car's cooling system went haywire and caused it to shut down. The car cranks but there's no power. What should I do?
To reset the onboard computer in a Ford vehicle, simply disconnect the battery, wait for a couple of minutes, and then reconnect it.
I no longer spot my car key on the dashboard.
I'm currently trying to find a way to remove the chip from my 2010 Ford Fusion.
I've had luck using the battery method on Nissans, but not on my Ford. To do it, I disconnect both cables, connect them for 30 minutes, turn the key to the on position, and turn on the headlights to drain all power from the systems. Once you reconnect the battery, if your radio has reset and your trip miles are cleared, then you've done it right. If not, try the process a few times until it works.
