The 2016 Dodge Caravan will be outfitted with a timing chain according to factory specifications. While the timing chain is designed to last the vehicle's lifespan, issues can occur due to normal wear and tear or a faulty timing chain tensioner. In such cases, the timing chain may stretch or become warped, leading to rough running, hesitation, or stalling of the vehicle. A slapping noise may also be heard when starting the engine before it has warmed up. Occasionally, a faulty timing chain tensioner can cause the chain to become loose and potentially fall off. All trim levels of the Caravan use a timing chain, except for models equipped with the 4.0L engine, which use a timing belt.
