I'm not going to ask what happened with the console, but I can assist you in removing the center console from your Ford Explorer. You'll need a magnet, an 8 millimeter socket, a ratchet, some drinks, and ratchet extensions. Start by removing the 8mm bolts on each side of the console, then free the plastic fasteners and pry them towards you. Locate and release the 7 mm bolt under the rubber insert in the console. Use a small trim stick to help remove the cup holder assembly. Enjoy a drink if needed. Disconnect the electrical connection from the cigarette lighter, then remove the last two 8mm bolts on top of the console. Disconnect the remaining electrical connector. With the ratchet extension, remove any remaining fasteners and pick them up with the magnet. You can now pull out the console and either replace it or dispose of it as you please!
