If your Toyota vehicle shows a C1223 trouble code, it indicates a problem with the speed sensor in the left rear wheel. Specifically, the input signal is likely registering as zero. Typically, this trouble code triggers the check engine light and/or the anti-lock brake system light on the dashboard. The electronic brake control module calculates wheel speed using the AC signal from the sensor. If the sensor's output does not meet the factory standards, the EBCM will generate the OBDII code. Sometimes, the sensor may not be faulty itself; issues like a shorted or open harness or a poor electrical connection could be the root cause. Replacing the speed sensor may cost you between $340 and $570, including a labor fee ranging from $80 to $100.
Toyota cars will show the C1223 code if the Anti-Lock Brake system is not configured according to the original factory settings.
