The main culprits are usually faulty wiring or a loose connection between the sensor and transmission. Another possibility is a wiring problem between the ECM and 4WD transfer case. Other potential reasons include improper voltage at the TPS sensor, ECM or VSS failure, a faulty speedometer cable, or failing speedometer drive gears.
