Many complaints about the 2017 Chevy Equinox relate to its high oil consumption, with some owners noting that their vehicles can go through over a quart of oil for every 1,000 miles driven. This can result in the crankcase being nearly empty by the time the car is due for an oil change, which increases the risk of engine failure due to low oil levels. Consistently changing the oil in your car is not just a good practice but essential for ensuring the engine functions smoothly. Engine oil plays a critical role in lubricating and cooling the internal components of the engine, preventing friction and reducing wear and tear.

I own a 2017 Chevy Equinox. At around 80,000 miles, it had a major issue where it lost all its oil while I was driving. I had to have the head gasket and transmission gasket replaced, along with other repairs. Since then, I've been diligent about checking my oil every week, and it seems to run low before hitting the 3,000-mile mark. Are there any lawsuits regarding the 2017 model year? I feel like this situation is completely unjust!

I own a 2017 Chevy Equinox, and for the past year, I have been experiencing the issue of my oil running out way before it's time for the next oil change. I had it changed on March 11 this year, and it's empty again already! They really need to address this issue promptly!

I'm experiencing a similar problem with my 2017 Equinox. It seems to be using approximately 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I had the camshaft replaced in April, which could have been caused by low oil levels. Every three times I fill up the gas tank, I check the oil levels and top up as needed. Luckily, the Chevy dealership will provide a complimentary oil top-up service if you take the car to them.

Dear General Motors, I'm reaching out to express my dissatisfaction with my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox equipped with a 2.4-liter engine. Since buying the car, I've encountered multiple problems that have necessitated significant repairs. In March 2023, I had to replace an unreliable accelerator pedal due to the warning sign for reduced power. This was worrisome, and I was disheartened to replace a component so soon after purchase. The reduced power indicator came on again in March 2022, leading to the replacement of the exhaust camshaft and primary timing chain, along with the intake and exhaust camshaft actuators and solenoids. In January 2022, I noticed a leak in the rear main oil seal, and upon reaching the dealership, it was found that there was no oil left in the car. The dealership replaced the engine rear oil seal after removing the transmission. Additionally, a failed fuel pump required replacement. In June 2021, the camshaft actuator solenoid needed to be replaced. Furthermore, in January 2021, an APP sensor failure necessitated replacement. Most of these issues were linked to malfunctioning piston rings, which is unacceptable for a relatively new vehicle. The frequency and seriousness of these problems have left me feeling profoundly frustrated and disappointed with my purchase. I am urging General Motors to acknowledge these issues and offer a satisfactory resolution. I trust that you will take my concerns seriously and collaborate with me to address these issues promptly.

I bought a 2017 Equinox from CarMax less than 9 months ago, and now it needs a new engine. CarMax is refusing to honor the warranty. Has anyone heard of a recall for these vehicles? I'm stuck paying my car note and facing thousands in repair bills.

A class action lawsuit was underway a couple of years back. I purchased a 2017 Equinox in June 2017, but since then, I've had to replace almost everything - from a faulty accelerator and HVAC system to the radio and power door locks/window wiring. Over the past 2.5 years, I've been dealing with GM Canada and the dealership regarding oil issues. Even after replacing hoses, sensors, and more, my car still burns a liter of oil every 800-1100 kilometers due to an engine defect. Two other service shops quickly identified the problem and suggested getting a new car rather than repairing it. When I contacted GM again, they asked me to take the car to one of their shops, pay for another inspection, fix whatever they claim is wrong, and then see if that resolves the issue. However, my oil changes hardly last three weeks.

The engine of the 2017 Chevy Equinox with 130,000 miles is shot and in terrible condition.

I had a major issue with my 2017 Chevy Equinox where the engine completely failed. Despite getting an oil change and being told there was still 70% oil left at 100,100 miles, my car suddenly stopped running. Upon inspection, it was discovered that all the oil had burned off, leading to a costly $5000 expense for a new engine. What's frustrating is that there were no warning lights indicating the oil level was low. This experience has left me extremely disappointed with my 2017 Chevy Equinox, and now I find myself without a car and unable to purchase another one at the moment.

I recently experienced issues with my car burning oil and producing smoke after adding 2 quarts to my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.

In 2017, my Equinox started burning oil and now needs a new engine despite only having 92,000 miles. Why are these complaints being overlooked repeatedly? This issue should be addressed with a recall.

What can we do about this issue with the oil now that the engine won't start due to a faulty motor?

I'm having issues with the engine of my 2017 Equinox, which has around 90,000 miles mostly on the highway. I discovered no oil in the engine just 3,000 miles after the last oil change. There were no warning lights, and the menu indicated that there was still 40% oil life remaining. The GM dealer is being evasive, claiming they are not aware of any oil problems with the 2017 Equinox or any recalls related to it. They have given me an estimate of $5,000 to $15,000 for the repairs. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations you can provide.

I swapped out my 2017 engine because it was guzzling oil, but now, just a year later with a new engine, I'm facing problems once more. This will be the last GM product I purchase - there needs to be a recall. Imagine my frustration when it stalled in the middle of an intersection today. I checked the oil two weeks after getting it changed only to find it completely empty.

I recently did an oil change on my 2017 Equinox and was surprised to find that it only had 2.5 quarts of oil in the engine. With 54,000 miles on it, I hadn't been regularly monitoring the oil levels!

The engine of the 2017 Chevy Equinox has been reported for using too much oil, which could eventually result in engine failure and damage.
