Flex fuel capability in a Chevy Impala allows for the usage of either regular gasoline or a blend of gasoline with up to 85% ethanol, known as E85. With a sensor in the fuel system, the vehicle automatically detects the type of fuel being used and adjusts the engine control unit (ECU) accordingly. It is suggested to opt for the highest octane fuel affordable during refueling to promote more complete combustion in the engine, potentially reducing carbon buildup and prolonging the engine's lifespan.
Flex fuel vehicles have the ability to run on either conventional gasoline or e-85 fuel.
