I am pleased to share my thoroughly positive experience purchasing a used vehicle through Ron Tonkin Honda of Portland. I was looking for a hard-to-find manual Subaru Forester. When I first stopped by for a test drive there were several Foresters on the lot--all automatic. Winfred, the personable and professional sales person assisting me, let me know that there was a manual Forester coming in soon as a trade-in. It was even red--my first choice color!!Winfred took my contact info and we stayed in touch. I had first option to drive it when it came in the following week. I had a prepurchase inspection done at my own shop. Everything looked great except the back brakes. The dealer agreed to fix them on the spot. I was able to seal the deal and have the car delivered to my home that same evening. I am now driving my dream car and I couldn't be happier.

As a former car dealer I am very aware of customer service, CSI index, and how important it is for a dealership. I had searched for a personal car and found a used Mercedes SL 500 at Tonkin Honda in Gresham Washington. My communication with Silas, the used car manager was an excellent experience, and I commend him on his follow up and accuracy of information. This was very important as I had not seen the car, and flew in from Denver to pick it up. I was very satisfied and would definitely recommend the dealership.

I bought my car from Ollie Moss and every time I'm in the Service Department he comes over and says Hello!! It's nice to be remembered and not thought of as just a "Car Deal" .....I would Recommend this Dealership to anyone looking for a car or even just needing Service on the one they have. Bottom line: I went with another dealership. Not only was working with Scott and David confusing, but I had 4 different sales people contacting me from the Tonkin dealership, asking for my information, like I had never met with anyone before. It is very frustrating to be bounced around to different sales people and none of them are on the same page. I ended up working with a younger guy, (not Scott) who informed me that the paperwork was looking good and I could come in that evening to review the financing....which I did. I drove across town with my 2 children at 8 at night to meet the sales rep and sign my paperwork. However, when I got there, he explained that the cars that David and Scott were showing me were not the types of vehicles I would be able to finance and the salesperson as well as the assistant manager were wondering if I would consider something other than a Honda and even if I were to consider another vehicle, I would need at least a couple thousand for down payment (Neither David or Scott mentioned the NEED for this and David even encouraged me to not use a down payment to assist with building my credit). Now my frustration kicked in because I drove across town thinking I would be driving home in a new car, and am hit with a down payment and the sales team questioning my car preferences (which I might add, was a list compiled by David himself). After the assistant manager got done speaking to me, as one would address a 6 year old that stole a cookie before dinner, I informed the team that I was done working with them and they needed to get their act to a more professional level. This was obviously a disappoint, given on how the interactions seemed when I spoke with Andrea via email and on the phone...and the first time I met Scott and David. However, it seemed like Scott pawned me off to a lower sales person because I wasn't interested in the cars he was pushing on me...which I find interesting that Scott FINALLY texted me just two days ago to see if he could still 'win my business'. At this point, I am sorry to say, he will not be winning my business now nor in the future. I worked with the McLoughlin dealership and was able to leave, same day with clear paperwork and with only sales person in a 2016. Doug with McLoughlin will make you feel good about buying your vehicle versus pushing you off the lot in a vehicle you don't like and/or can't be financed without hidden details.Train your sales people to be more professional, get on the same page, and understand you have all the time in the world because your livelihood depends on the treatment of the consumer.

I went in with a driver's side mirror that had been shattered. The estimate I got consisted of an amount scribbled on a business card and Burton said "call me if you want me to order the part." I called and left 2 messages but didn't hear back, so I called the service desk, who had no record of my estimate because it was so informal. I had to go in again. Nichole looked at the damage but then when we went to order the part couldn't remember if it was driver or passenger side, couldn't remember if I needed the casing or just the mirror. Again-no written, real estimate. They ordered the part and scheduled me for the next day at 1, telling me it would take an hour. I showed up on time, handed over my key and waited. After an hour and a half I went to the desk to check on the progress since I had other obligations that afternoon. They had been looking for the part for the whole 90 minutes and had not even started the work!! They never thought that maybe they should come tell me that they couldn't find the part and that they would have to reschedule my appointment. I was the one who went up after an hour and a half to check in , so who knows how long they would have left me there. I have never encountered such poor management or decision making in a professional service business. I can' only imagine that it is because they have so much business that they really don't care about individuals or their time. There is no other explanation. I understand that things get lost but for the love of all that is holy, tell your customer what is going on. Why would you have someone sit for 90 minutes??!! I just can't say enough how I will never return, how I will never recommend and I will never support a Ron Tonkin dealership. My boycott will mean nothing to his bottom line and he will continue to foster business practices that screw the little guy. For my peace of mind I am done. By the way, I cannot believe they have received any "excellence in service awards" like the banners say. Must be some sort of scam.

I had the best auto service experience ever at Ron Tonkin Honda! I found that my engine is overhitting just one day before my family trip to Canada. Josh Matson and Gunard Solberg were willing to look at my car even though I did not have an appointment scheduled with them. They were completely booked, but to save my vacation, they found extra time and fixed my car the same day!! Thank you guys so much!! My family is so grateful!!!I highly recommend Ron Tonkin Honda!

Well, it's a long story but I bought my honda accord from them, I had few issues with finance at first but that got taken care and Cirk from finance was really helpful and I would like to thank him from bottom of my heart. But also, I was given the false information by Michelle from title department and now I can't drive my car for another two days (hopefully it will be just two days) because my temporary permit got expired. Bottom line, I am really disappointed by Ron Tonkin Honda.

Dealing with Andrew in Tonkin's internet sales department was a very good experience. On a Saturday night Andrew drove to the coast to trade a dealer for the car I wanted. He was knowledgeable and personable through the entire transaction. This purchase was our 4th one with Tonkin Honda and probably not our last.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR car for service HERE! Ron Tonkin Honda service on 122nd has the worst customer service.Jim Sampson is RUDE and condescending. we brought our Honda Odyssey in for service and was told the charge would be 560.00 and was charged 675.00.When I went to pick up the van, the stereo, including dvd player, had no power and did not work. That idiot Jim told me perhaps when alternator went out it blew out stereo/dvd system and may have to be replaced! I asked him "is that even really xxxxx possible??" The xxxxxx just shrugged his shoulders . I was not told that system was out,,i found out after I paid and was leaving the parking lot (when I came back into the service dept and told Nicole that the stereo/dvd was out she said to pull back in service and she will get right on it and when I came back in she was rushing out to lunch ..I had to wait in line all over again).. and then that fool Jim apologized for NOT telling me... and if I can bring the car back in to search for problem. They could have and should have told me of this problem when they called to tell me the van was ready,on top of that they had the van for 2 extra days!...he said DEFINITELY NOT a fuse shorted and that they did check all the fuses associated with the stereo and dvd. The xxxxx then said to bring the car back next week as there is NO time to find problem this week. I then took the van to HONDA Specialist on 74th NE Glisan, which we shoulda did the first time, they found the problem within 30min... surprise:a shorted fuse! and they told us to replace the alternator was way overcharged. So DON"T bother getting service at RON TONKIN HONDA on NE 122nd unless you like to be jerked around and overcharged. THEY SUCK! (and that's giving them the benefit of doubt) ask other people who own HONDAs and took they're car for service there and they will each tell you what a crappy experience they've had at this dealership. GOTO Honda Specialist on 74th NE Glisan. Check other reviews here and read the same ol story over and over: Service Dept BLOWS!

I so look forward to using the service department at this dealership because of the quality of the service and the amazingly friendly and customer service orientation of all their employees. The check-in people are knowledgable and professional, AND they actually care about making things go well for the customer. All of them are excellent and should be commended. In my many years of car owning (I'm 76), I've never had a more positive experience at a dealership. My car is now over 4 years old so I've had lots of time and numerous trips to Tonkin Honda. My experience has always been very very positive!j

I'm a car shopper. When I buy a new car I want to really feel that I'm getting not only a good deal but the straight story. I also want to feel like I'm not getting upsold at every checkbox on the options sheet. Ron Tonkin's did that for me. I had talked to a number of new Honda dealers and it was all "Nobody will give you a better deal," and "I can't tell you what the accessories will cost until after the car arrives and we see what dealer installed accessories are on it." Yes, that last one is an exact quote. I dealt exclusively with the internet sales team of Steve and Andy and my experience with them was the eact opposite. All my questions were answered promptly and with hard numbers, the deal we agreed on by email and phone was exactly the deal they presented me on paper when I arrived at the dealership, No extra surprises at all, really... none.My new CR-V was ready and waiting. Andy did a great job showing me the car features and I was off with excellent financing (thanks for that Jess).If you're looking for a Honda, this is THE place to get it.

The last Honda purchase I had with a local dealer in Portland left me with some serious buyer's remorse and feeling like I got worked into buying something that I shouldn't have. I kicked myself for letting myself get "caught up" with all the Used Car Salesman BS. So, with this preparation and experience as a backdrop, I walked into Ron Tonkin and had a completely different experience. First, most of my communication was over the phone and they didn't waste my time with lots of salesmanship BS. They said what they could do, I told them what I could do - we met on mutual terms and got a complicated 2 car trade-in deal done. I've bought 20 cars in my 37 years, this was the best experience by far. I'd recommend Mike Schultz and Samy Sami to everybody. The biggest deal: their no BS approach allowed me to trust them - and they worked a deal out that was good for both of us with total financial transparency. Cheers, gentlemen.

I gave 5 star ratings across the board because of Andy Sorensen. Had it not been for his patience, honesty, and understanding, I would have given 3's, with price being the exception at 1 star.For starters, Andy drove out about 30 minutes to pick me up! He was very informative and thorough when showing us our soon-to-be CRV. He was upfront and patient with me as I took my sweet time to haggle down the price (or at least attempt to).He never gave me the impression that he was a car salesman trying to push me to close, but more of a friend who wanted me to make the best decision for myself.I should note that it was my first time buying a car at a dealership and it was definitely a learning experience. I can't say I loved it, but Andy definitely made it an easier experience for me.

From the moment we stepped onto the lot, Tim greeted us and helped us narrow down what we wanted. He gave us a great test drive and lots of information, and didn't press us to close that day. Two weeks later, we drove off in a 2015 Honda Fit with everything we wanted, and an incredible interest rate to boot! All around, the service was wonderful. I'd highly recommend this place.

I have a love/hate relationship with cars. I love them when they work. Hate having problems. This is why I always stick with reliable brands (Honda, Toyota, Apple, Nokia, Craftsman, etc). But even with the best brands, things can go wrong.We have a Honda Odyssey Touring Edition with 75K miles. A lot can go wrong with this car as there are a LOT of gadgetry on this van. For the most part we have not had any major issues. Except one. The front axle had a wobble to it that was hard to locate but eventually replaced free of charge from Honda. Excellent service and care, even though it was out of warranty. Ron Tonkin went the extra mile to communicate to Honda that it looks like a manufacturing defect. As I said, Honda picked up the tab. But that experience is not why I am writing.20K miles or so AFTER the axle was fixed, I had a ball joint go bad on the same side. Again, they determined that this was related to the bad axle (wobble) and Honda picked up the cost for this.All of this could not have happened without Ron Tonkin advocating for their customers. They really take the stress out of owning and servicing a car.One last note....From time to time I do call around to other dealerships and private Honda service shops and find that Ron Tonkin's service prices are right in the middle of the road on cost if not lower.

We haven't bought a new car in over 17 years, so we were not looking forward to the "process". I went through USAA and within minutes of starting the internet process Andrew Sorensen called me. He was great and sent me a price quote within minutes. Over the next week we conversed several times and worked out a price. We came down and Andrew was busy so Tanya helped us. As it turned out we found a different car on the lot that met what we wanted. Tanya helped worked out a price that we felt was the right one and purchased the car. We can't thank both Tanya and Andrew enough for making the process a pleasant one. And after that Andrew was more than helpful in helping us setup the car initially and offered any help in the future. It was a great experience for us. Thanks Tanya and Andrew!

I stopped at several dealers in the Portland area while I was on vacation for test drives. Tim Darmody at Ron Tonkin was by far the most knowledgeable saleman I spoke to. He took the time to go over all of the features of the vehicle I was shopping for inside and out. When it came time to replace our Civic Hybrid, we dutifully looked at the other hybrids and high fuel economy brands on the market. I would like to take this time and give a shout out to Josh, one of the service managers at Ron Tonkin Honda. Long story short, after a long day of work I noticed my tire was very flat. I knew that I wanted a CR-V. I made an appointment for a test drive. I was met as soon as I entered the dealership by Erick and he took me right to the vehicles I was interested in. Jason was very friendly and made the process of signing paperwork quick and effortless. When I was done with the paperwork, my new, beautiful CR-V was presented to me completely detailed with a full tank of gas. Erick gave me a quick tutorial of all the techie things that were new to me and even helped me sync up my iPhone. All said and done, I spent 2 hours at the dealership. Joe was very nice to work with and I liked having the emails throughout the process to update me on what was going on with my vehicle. Although the body work and customer service were good, when I got my vehicle back it had mouse droppings throughout the inside of the car (cup holders, glove box, seats). There was also a very strong smell when I turned on my air vents. That could be from it sitting in the shop for 1 1/2 weeks. I'm a little nervous about whether there are still mice or even a dead mouse causing the continued smell.

In my second visit to Ron Tonkin, I took my Odyssey in for recall repairs to the 2nd gear, the Ron Tonkin service repairman LOST one of the bolts to my front tire and said it was never there to begin with - wrong answer, as my husband checked over the vehicle that morning and it certainly didn't come off during my drive to the dealership. I asked about the need for the repair to the 2nd gear and how it affected the transmission. They said there was no correlation. Another falsehood. Upon reviewing Odyssey transmissions online there have been problems with the Odyssey transmission since 1999 and all Honda dealership know it. Ron Tonkin Honda on NE 122nd was dishonest in their repair services. I will never take my vehicle to them again.

This dealership was absolutely awesome. I live in Renton Washington and I found this car on craigslist. The great price was what attracted me to this dealership to begin with. But after speaking with andy over the phone I knew this is where I wanted to get my car. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and over the next few weeks began to view him as more of a friend then a car salesman. I was able to go down last weekend and everything was great. Everything he came across as over the phone was true in real life. He got me the deal I wanted and really helped me out. And then to top everything off the loan manager kurt was awesome as well. He even found me more money and got me a lower interest rate. Best buying experience ever!!!

They got me in a truck with bad credit, that was a good job. I went back after 12 perfect payments to see if I could upgrade. David said after 12 payments done deal. So I filled out a new app, David said your approved and he would call me back and if he couldn't find a used truck he would put me in a new dodge with the ability to shed my negative equity in a dodge with the large rebates they had. Never got that call. I am now at 14 perfect payments David and I am still waiting for that call !

I returned my leased car for a new Accord, and my experience was abysmal. After being held hostage for 4.5 hours, and agreeing to the lease terms with Mike ("Magic Mike" as he calls himself, gag) i saw Jess in the "finance" dept. Jess had me sign all the paperwork, and at the very end, showed me the terms agreement which was $15 per month MORE than what i had negotiated with "Magic Mike." Jess was quite nonchalant about it, and when i pointed out that this was a $500 mistake, he quickly said "no it isn't!" I informed him that $15 monthly over 3 years is, indeed, over $500. He's the finance guy but couldn't do simple math.... Next day, i called to let the finance manager know what occurred. Kirk called me back, told me he needed to locate the paperwork, assured me he would call back shortly, and 24 hours later, i'm still awaiting his call. VERY DISAPPOINTED with this experience, since my first time around was much better.

We had a wonderful experience at this dealership. We were very clear about what we wanted and how much we were willing to spend. Dakota Lucero and David McGee worked with us without trying to over sell and got us exactly what we wanted. We were able to test drive, ask any and all questions and then work with them to get a monthly payment that met our request. During the process everyone had great humor, they were friendly and at no time was there pressure to sell us "more car" than we needed. They showed us any and all options so that we were aware but did not over do the selling. When working with Kirk Dulaney to do the final finances we again were treated with respect, honesty and a friendly customer service. He made sure we understood all of our options around the warranty and once we made our decision - he did not over sell or try to change our mind. Everyone was respectful of our time and needs. We will go back to this dealership and ask to work with these three again.Our only suggestion is that they have food or snacks available because the process of buying a car takes a bit - so it would be nice to have some thing to eat. :)

He did not meet my expectations as a dealership Gold certified salesman but Suzanne O'Neil in the Finance Office was more than professional, confident & was not willing to allow the deal to go through without doing everything she possibly could.First my insurance carrier was closed & she reminded me to get a policy online so I could take the car same day as the purchase.Secondly, she corrected 2 mistakes made by sales.Thirdly, she got me a better interest rate the next day which includes a service contract for the term of my loan.I cannot express more deep appreciation to her "bulldog" attitude when it came to getting me into my new (pre-owned) vehicle.Once I came back the next day to say thanks, my salesman was apologetic for his mistakes & we have since made amends.No shady business dealings here - this dealership is worth recommending.

This was the first time I had purchased a car from a dealer. It was a fantastic experience. Suzanne (the finance lady) was awesome. She looked for 2 hours to find me a better interest rate. She has wonderful person, extremely helpful, and very pleasant to talk to and work with. The salesmen were good humored and friendly even after my father made fun of their ties. "Nice tie, do they sell men's clothes where you got that?" Hilarious. Ron Tonkin Honda will be at the top of my list when I look for another car, and Suzanne is the main reason for that. The absolute WORST car buying experience I ever had. Among other issues:for financing I was assured that I would receive the best rate available including from credit unions. I have an excellent credit rating. They told me that the best rate was Honda Financial Services at 3.99% . So I took it. When I got home, I checked online and in less than 5 minutes found several credit unions offering 1.99%. So of course I re-financed with the credit union (had to wait 2 months for the registration to arrive and pay DMV a $77 fee).as I was getting ready to leave Ron Tonkin with my new car, I noticed that it did not have the all weather package that I bought. Nobody at the dealer had bothered to check the car.within 30 seconds (really) of driving away, a warning light came on. The dealer was already closed for the evening so there was nothing to do until the next day. Again, terrible customer service in making certain the car was OK.the duplicate set of keys they gave me did not work! They were for a different car. When I went back to Ron Tonkin, they kept me waiting for over an hour. Finally they told me they were making a new key, but the car would have to be programmed for the key to work. I could not wait, so they promised me they would call me within 30 minutes to set up an appointment. 3 days later, I still did not get a call back. So I called the dealer and set up an appointment. 15 minutes later, I got a call back saying they found the proper key. When they brought it to my house, it was the same set of keys that did not work! So again I needed an appointment. The next day when I went to the appointment, after about 20 minutes I was told that they can't make the key at the dealer and they didn't have it in stock - so the sales person totally lied to me when he told me they were making the key. In the end, they got the correct key and programmed the car. I will say that there is one person there in Customer Service (Stephanie) who is honest and very helpful. But everyone else is not to be trusted. I will NEVER buy a car again from any Ron Tonkin dealership.

Bottom Line: we were given a quote over the phone. We went into the dealership, where they laid everything out, the salesperson signed the paper and asked me to initial the final price. They brought over the contract and as we were filling it out (literally) another gentleman came over and said to stop, that they couldn't sell the vehicle to us at that price. He said they were losing too much money. They wanted to charge a different price, plus full retail on all the dealer accessories already installed (which were highly inflated prices anyway). I'm rating this dealer so low because they told me one price to get me in, but then wouldn't honor it when it came down to it. That's a deceitful practice to me. From reading other online reviews (yelp, google, etc.) it seems I'm not alone in thinking there need to be some major changes made at this dealership.

I received the Dealership Special Event in the mail to offer purchasing my used 2003 Honda Pilot for up to $1,000 over Kelley Blue Book Fair Trade Value based on their low inventory and the need for this vehicle. I have been the sole owner of the vehicle since I purchased it new from the Portland Ron Tonkin Honda on SE 122nd and they considered me a valued customer. I had an expectation of receiving an offer in the range of $7,000 - $7,500 for my vehicle based on a number of positive factors and my own research on Kelley Blue Book. I was offered $6,000 which included the additional incentive. Upon hearing my rejection and me heading out the door, a counter offer came from them for $7,200. I expect this type of treatment from most dealerships, but not Honda. The same thing happened this spring when I went to purchase the new 2012 Honda CRV. They gave me an extremely low ball trade in offer for my other car (Subaru Impreza - very good condition) and I went to Gresham Honda and received a trade in value $3,000 more than theirs with no haggling. No surprise that this happened again from this dealership. I feel the need to shower after dealing with these people. Avoid them at all costs, they will rip you off!

So I went to the service desk guy to let him know and he tried to say the key is "$30-something" and another $78 for programing. This is right after I asked the parts guy how much it was. If you think car salesmen are shady, your service desk guy is just as shady if not more and they have it easier because your car is in for service and you guard is down. People should be aware of these bs when they bring their car in for services. I was told to expect a fair trade in value based on kelly blue book (kbb.com) trade-in values so I took an afternoon off work and went in to do what should have been an easy transaction. When I got there, the closer guy, Jason, made a lowball offer for my trade... 25% under the kbb trade value and tried to justify it by showing me auction values for a car that wasn't even the same model as mine. After pointing out the problem, Jason told me a long, irrelevant story about selling his Tahoe and wasted my time. He then asked if I would pay kbb full retail for his car to "balance" the deal. It's crap like this that gives dealers a bad name. I didn't appreciate the dishonesty and having my time wasted. I won't be back. If you go in, do your research on the value of your trade and hold your ground.

They didn't end up having that car in stock, but their Internet Manager, John, went the extra mile. He immediately suggested other dealers in the area that they could pull similar cars from, and offered to pick up vehicles the next state over.I ended up going with a different car that they had in their showroom, and the in-person sales experience was great. John and his associates got us in and out quickly and efficiently, and kept the upselling to a minimum. I had positive experience with Ron Tonkin. Obviously, they want the best price they can get and I wanted the best deal I could get. They aren't a non-profit. Everyone who works there has to earn a living.When I emailed Ron Tonkin the lowest offer I had received on-line, which was lower than their offer, they countered with much better deal. They respected my request not to contact me by phone. I emailed their offer to the other dealers and other dealers replied they couldn't match it. When I looked at the car, of course, the salesman tried to sell me the options, but when I made it clear that there was no way I was going to pay for them, that they were not something I wanted or needed, I was not pressured. I did buy a different option, was completely aware of the technique used to get me interested, which was well done sales strategy that made me smile because it was choreographed well, but it was option I wanted, and I did not feel any pressure. It is their job to have options and try to sell them. I enjoyed the sale and part of the experience was observing implementation of effective sales techniques. It was no different from a high end restaurant where the waiters learn to get people to add the dessert and coffee after dinner because these are high profit items. Same with the options on cars, I would guess. I don't feel I have to buy dessert but I often buy it because I decide I want it. I left with lease deal for Honda LX that was better than any other dealer offered, even with the option I chose. I don't expect any problems with service.

Run fast. Run far.I am embarrased to say that I own a vehicle from these crooks. While the Honda vehicle itself is great, this team has proven to be unscrupulous liars.When I originally began looking for my Honda CRV, I went to my closest Honda dealer (Dick Hannah Honda - see the separate review) and was quickly violated by their team and gave the Tonkin team my business.At the time, I was so unravelled by the previous experience at the other dealership that I didn't realize that I had walked onto a dealership who worked in the exact same sales model - pressure the customer and promise the moon. What started out as a base LX package with an "internet price" of $21,665 rapidly ended up being a $25000 sale.That being said, it was my fault for letting them pressure sell me into the added options. I knew I'd have a second purchase coming up in a month or two, so I expected to bat .500 by getting a "good" deal on the next one.... right....This past weekend (less than 90 days from the initial purchase) we picked out a car from the online inventory and I called the original salesman. He didn't remember me but acted like he did. Regardless, I honored my word by giving him the chance to make a second deal off of me. We drove the car, we liked it, we wrote down the sticker price of $19860 (for a Honda Fit Sport with Navigation) and he verbally said we could take $515 off so they could sell it to us at "invoice".We did not have our trade-in car with us, so we told him we'd return in the morning to close the deal and trade the old car in. When we arrived the next morning, we came prepared with print-outs from KBB.com (Kelley Blue Book) as the Honda website redirected us to it. The "Good" trade value for our vehicle was $2025; the "Fair" value was $1525. With no time to spare, our sales guy took the car back to the service bay and had the used car manager appraise it. He came back saying he'd be willing to give us the "Good" value minus some money for tires and repairs. What he neglected to mention was that his "Good" value was our "Fair" value since he was doctoring up his appraisal printout from KBB! If indeed the vehicle would qualify for "Good" status, then why was he trying to offer us only $900!!!We challenged him on his incorrect values and he played make believe for about a half hour while he doctored up more fake documents with more fake trade-in values. (I'd hate to see his family albums after he gets done Photoshopping everything - I bet their "European" vacation photos are really in Hermiston, OR or Weed, CA!!) Finally, he negotiated that he'd give us $1300 for the vehicle as if he were doing us the biggest favor in the world.We looked at their offer sheet and noticed something odd about it...other than the fact that they front-loaded $3500 of services that we didn't want.... The sticker price we had written down from the night before had gone up! That $19860 minus the promised $515 was now $21K instead of being $19345! We called the sales guy on this, but he played dumb and acted like we were lying about the sticker price. Arrrgh! I'm not a violent person, but if ever I wanted to punch someone in the face, it was then and there right on the showroom floor!One thing led to another and he finally called out his finance manager who tried the age-old trick of switching financing variables around to meet a "desired" monthly payment. He thought it would be just fantastic if we had a nice low payment of $293 for 84 months for a $19000 car. Hmmmm...we calculated that out to be roughly $24000 with $5000 in his pocket. He challenged me very indignantly when I called him on it. I told him if I wanted to continue extending the term of my loan to get the payment amount I wanted, I'd be looking at a $110,000 Porsche, not a $19,000 HONDA FIT!!! Again, he took that as a buying sign and personal challenge and promptely turned his sheet over and started to frantically write out the numbers hocus pocus that dealerships train their finance managers to do.At that point we had to leave. My sales guy who I had extended the gracious opportunity to get a second sale (mind you, this was within a 90 day period) was painfully cavalier about having us walk out. Saw online deals and went by to check them out. Ran my crdit and was told the ONE car I Could buy. Intimidated and embarassed, I bought the car. It seemed like a great deal and they kept telling me what a STEAL it was. They INSISTED on some stupid tracking device for $800 (dealer cost). By insisted-I mean INSISTED and got a two year warranty at $2,000 and the car was $9450 alone. Then the "Gap Insurance" again-no choice there.....funny about how many choices I was NOT given.Well the car is hunk of crap. First the scumbag sales guy won't give me the MASTER KEY or the ASOLUTELY NECESSARY REMOTE-THAT ALONE WAS MENTAL WARFARE. Wow, they were so nice, they gave in. The Lights on the radio were dead-whoops-a recall. Then, the seat belt didn't retract-another basic honda staple. They were so nice that when I got the car back AGAIN the oil was low, someone had a dog in my car, the transmission was malfunctioning, the brakes didn't work, the battery was old and needed to be replaced.....and the car is less than 25 days old. Oh-and the transmission light is still on. Off to RON TONKIN HONDA.....THE PLACE THAT SELLS YOU A CAR TO NEVER DRIVE ONE.

Last minute options markup - through online sales department - STAY AWAY!!! by noahdavis on 05-13-08 (06:15PM)Pros: Sales rep was niceCons: Installing $600 worth of options after we agreed on (and put a deposit) on the purchase priceI'm writing this minutes after getting off the phone with their GM Pat. I had reserved a Base model Honda Fit a month ago w/ no options. We agreed on a price, in writing via email. I gave them a $500 deposit and they even sent me a VIN # of the vehicle. Literally an hour before I'm about to pick my wife up from work and get our new car, I get a call from our sales person, Mark telling me that there was a mix up in the service area and they added some optional accessories to the car, some of which can't be removed! Not only that, but it's $600 worth of crap that we don't want, never asked for and were told when we reserved the car, we weren't getting! They even offered to remove the mats and trunk tray bringing it down to $400 over what I'd agreed to pay.When I talked to the manager about it, he agreed that it was a mix up on their end, but that we'd still have to pay for it, or wait another month for the next shipment. He stated that they were popular cars and most people want options with them. They'll probably sell my car to some sucker in the next week.The thing that kills me, is they had a satisfied, guaranteed sale (with a first time car buyer no less) 99% of the way complete and they're willing to let it go.And over $400 RETAIL!I may have been a special case, and this may have been a rare screw up on their part. This was an opportunity for them to show that they'll take care of their customers if things get weird (as they can easily get weird, when buying a car) - and decided not to.Anyway, I'm doing the only thing I have the power to do as a consumer. Write this review of them and post it on as many public forums and tell as many people as I possibly can.If you live in Oregon, please don't go to a Ron Tonkin Dealership. Buy elsewhere.I had a horrible, horrible experience.
