I brought my 2010 Subaru Legacy for an oil change as I have always serviced it at the No. Reading Dealership in the past. The service department manager said an oil change is $59.99. The previous service manager never charged me this price. This is outrageous and I won't be bringing my car back there now that Annette Cross is not the service manager. She was a pleasure to deal with in the past five years. I won't be buying a new Subaru there either as there is a Subaru Dealer in Plaistow near where I live. I am disappointed in this dealership since we loved it for the past five years. Since when is a regular oil change $59.99? He said they did other things but my invoice showed a write up for just an oil change. The service manager said that oil went up. What a joke! Goodbye No. Reading Subaru!

A couple of weeks ago I worked with Dwight O'Hara on the purchase of a 2013 Subaru Legacy, and very much appreciated his no-pressure style. I feel like a got a fair deal on a good car, and the dealership was attentive in facilitating all relevant details--right down to a lumbar support I inadvertently forgot to remove from my trade-in. I would definitely buy from them again.

Just bought a used 2013 Impreza from the North Reading Subaru. Dwight was our salesperson and the whole process was very smooth. We got a good deal and it wasn't at all frustrating as some of my previous car buying experiences have been. This is the second car I've bought there and I would definitely recommend them.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE when buying a used car. They sold me a car with problems that cropped up almost immediately after driving off the lot. That happens - but worse, when I called to discuss next steps, Dave said he would "learn more and get back to me the next day" - he never called and did not answer my messages nor the 4 messages that the dealership mechanic left for him. (The car had approx 40,000 miles and could not be driven off the dealership lot without repair - liability safety issues, the wiring harness needed to be replaced.) I traveled from Maine to buy this used car and trusted the reviews I'd read that North Reading Subaru had great customer service and integrity - ABSOLUTELY NOT. I called to discuss the problems and safety issues, but Dave did not want to deal with it. He was immediately on the defensive rather than trying to collaborate on next steps. Being as I am quite a distance away, Dave simply gave lip service - he specifically promised to call me back in the morning after he had "spoken with his service department" and the dealership mechanic (Jim) that did not want me to drive the car out of the dealership lot due to safety liability issues. The next day, Jim and I left a total of 6 messages for him with absolutely no reply. I am completely disappointed and frustrated with North Reading Subaru. Dave has simply stopped communicating and I am left with no choice but to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau so that he will reply! I am looking into Massachusetts Consumer Affairs and Business regulations as well as the Lemon Law. North Reading Subaru did not have the integrity to work with me in figuring things out. They simply stonewalled me to avoid taking responsibility instead of collaborating to resolve the issue - whatever the correct path may have been. This will not be the only dissatisfied review that I write - I want to save others from having this experience with North Reading Subaru. AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP!! They will not take responsibility for problems and in fact, will treat you with disrespect. They have NO INTEGRITY. Dave is not interested in doing the right thing - or even finding out what the right thing might be! He has no ethics and is rude, Dave will say and do anything to avoid culpability instead of truly finding out what is going on. Side issue : car was sold to me with an open recall 11-014 Check before buying, especially from North Reading Subaru!! Even better - DON"T BUY from North Reading Subaru

I always take my car to North Reading Subaru for service and was impressed with their quality of work and professionalism. So when the lease on my current Subaru was expiring I asked if I could return it to them instead of the place I leased it from and they said "absolutely!". Rui Coelho was a pleasure to work with. There was no pressure or uncomfortable sales pitches to deal with. Rui walked me through each step of turning in my car and leasing a brand new one. While I was with Steve Bova signing the paperwork (he was very helpful and organized), Rui took the car to be inspected and put on the new plates. He went through all of the cars features and answered all of my questions. He even set up bluetooth and downloaded the contacts from my iphone for me. Rui and North Reading Subaru exceeded my expectations! Thank you for the great service!

I purchased a 2014 Subaru from North Reading Subaru believing that they would sell my trade-in to a salvage yard. The car I was trading had irreparable hidden damage that I revealed to them in order to prevent the car from being re-sold to an unsuspecting person. I paid $750 more for the Subaru at North Reading because the salesperson and manager stated that a competitor in New Hampshire -- who was offering me a lower price for the Subaru and a higher price for the trade -- would sell the car to another person. They indicated that they wouldn't do that. However, three weeks later, using the VIN# to trace its whereabouts ,I found that North Reading did not sell the car to a salvage yard, but had instead sold the car to the auction in NH that sold it to an unsuspecting driver in Vermont. North Reading did exactly what they said that their competitor would do!

I started the shopping process in March. Nearly 7 months later I resumed the search for a new car. I really appreciated the low pressure sales approach by Dwight. He could have pressured me during the months in between, but he didn't. His sales style is the reason I returned. He was honest about features that I didn't need and was very helpful in making the final choice. I would definitely recommend North Reading Subaru (and Dwight) to anyone.

I test drove 8 cars on a Saturday, including 3 Subaru's at a competitor's dealership. On Sunday, my husband, 2 children and I drove up to North reading Subaru to see what type if deal we could get on a Forester. Paul was extremely patient and throrough with us about the car, and took my husband and daughter for a test ride. Paul and Dave were able to locate a car in the color I wanted for a good price. My husband wanted to check out the other Subaru dealership, and we told them we would call or come back later in the day. They were extremely pleasant about us leaving and didn't try to pressure us. We went to the other Subaru dealership and the pressure and games were just too much, so we walked out. My husband gave me the go ahead to go back to North Reading. When I walked in, Paul and Dave were happy to greet me and help me purchase the car. I told them specifically we went back to them because they didn't pressure us or play games. The whole buying process with them was easy and comfortable. I never felt rushed or pressured. I was even given a loaner car while I we waited for the paperwork to process. Upon pick up, Paul was great explaining the ins and outs of the Forester and helping me set up my phone to the handsfree device and radio stations. Thank you Paul and Dave!

I didn't go to North Reading Subaru first but I'm glad I went there. I went to another Subaru dealer not to be mentioned (Wakefield) and had a deal in place with a salesman that wouldn't call us back half of the time. We were returning a lease and only had until the end of the month to get the new car. Our salesman assured us that the car would be coming in on the boat on the 28th and we would have it by the 3rd. Which we said it would be fine. We didn't here back from the salesman and didn't get a response until the 28th. He told us that The car wouldn't be there for another week. The truck will be leaving in a couple of days, but we have a car on the lot with a few more features that you can have now. We said no and wanted our deposit back. When I went to pick up the check one of the people that worked there joked that now they wouldn't be able to go on that vacation with our money. Ha Ha. I went to North Reading Subaru and explained the situation and expected to fight for every dollar. But our salesman Rui Coelho showed me a couple of cars and they didn't have the car we were looking and wished me luck. Then another saleman looked up what they had in inventory and found one with a moon roof. I really didn't want the option but I decided to look. It had everything else and they basically matched the price of the other dealer. They were honest with me. That goes a long way in my book. They not very close to me but I plan on going there for my services too. I wish I had gone there first. I would recommend going the this dealership before you try another so you have something great to compare to the other dealers.

I just purchased a 2014 Crosstrek. The whole experience was excellent! No pressure to buy anything. All my questions were answered. Paul, Dan, and Steve were amazing. Not only did I get a great deal on my trade-in, my payments were lowered by almost $100/month! The whole team works hard to make sure you get the vehicle you're looking for and at the best price. Overall, it was a very positive experience. We had gone to another Subaru dealer (Wakefield) and they gave us a ridiculously low offer for our trade-in and said they use a different valuation system. As we all know with the internet we have the same access to the information. When I questioned them which website it was, I was able to look and see it had the same value as the others that I brought in with me. Extremely unprofessional and why many people dislike the experience of buying a car when they blatantly lie.Our experience with North Reading was the complete opposite. Shawn was friendly and easy to deal with. He explained everything about the Crosstrek and was able to answer all of our questions. The price of the car was very fair and the only negotiation was the trade-in. Steve Bova in the finance department was also a pleasure to deal with! I love my Subaru Crosstrek!We would recommend North Reading to anyone in the market for a Subaru.

Back in October , my husband and I started researching a replacement vehicle for my 2001 Honda CRV. My CRV was very good to me and getting up in age. I walked in off the street after doing my Subaru homework on line, I was in an investigative state of mind. After meeting Subaru Salesrep, Dwight O'Hara, and his excellent approach to get me an immediate test drive in the car of my investigation ,I was impressed by the excellent service to a walk in person. Dwight quickly set up an evaluation of my 2005 Subaru Outback which I intended to have in trade for the 2014 Outback. We talked how I was just evaluating and would return at a later date with my wife to test drive again. He left to confer with his Boss Dan H. He said he could make me an offer with my trade on this day and sure enough the, 2014 Subaru Outback, I had investigated on line was now under an agreement with my deposit. My wife test drove the car. Financial service was provided by Steve Bavota. I drove my new car home in three days time as Dwight expedited the registration and the car prep to get my satisfaction. My overall experience was excellent and one of the best feelings in buying a car from a dealership in my life. I strongly would recommend the North Reading Dealership to anyone buying a Subaru.

After being unable to purchase a Subaru in PA over the Christmas holiday due to not having changed my license to my current state/address, I found North Reading Subaru as the dealer closest to work. They had good reviews online and I was able to get a locked in price off MSRP through TrueCar.Dwight did a great job getting me the car that I wanted, in the color I wanted, and I was able to drive away in my new car within days of first popping in to visit.The only reason I gave one star off on price was because it wasn't made clear to me that I couldn't get the reduced APR on a car loan if I didn't use a shorter term loan. It wouldn't have changed my choice, but it would have been nice to have it pointed out at the time of writing out the loan application.All in all, a fantastic experience!

In looking for our Subaru, we had a very helpful employee called Dwight. He knew that we had looked at other dealers and could compare the cars we looked at. He was not one of those salesmen who push you to buy a car that day. We liked that. He knew what he was talking about and knew what we wanted in a car. When we were buying it he tried to get us the lowest price possible and the greatest deal possible. He wanted us to have a car we could enjoy, at a price we could afford. We are really enjoying our Subaru. Dwight also was a nice person and enjoyable and easy to talk to. The North Reading Subaru Dealership also had a small snack bar (free of charge). There they served ice cream, which was very good. They also had candies and crackers, coffee, water, and more. Overall, it was a good experience at the North Reading Subaru and I would highly recommend Dwight as your salesperson. We are very happy with our Subaru and would recommend this dealership. :D

I must write to tell you about my pleasant experience with North Reading Subaru. My wife and I knew exactly what we wanted to buy as this was our 3rd Subaru. Rui Coelho, our sales consultant, sensed that we knew what we were talking about and didn't waste our time with a rehearsed sales pitch. He took us out to the lot and showed us the car we were considering. In addition to the best price we were offered, we appreciated that no sales pitch was made to buy any extras when signing the paper work for the new car. We have never been to this dealer before and needed our GPS to find them. :) Rest assure if we buy another Subaru will we will call them first.

I would NEVER recommend this dealership. Our sales person was nice but the rest of the process was absolutely terrible. Steve Bova in specifics was absolutely arrogant and disrespectful. We ended up driving the extra 40 mins to Ocean Subaru up in NH and they were able to match our deal & give us $1000 credit to make up for the terrible experience we had at North Reading! This was done all over the phone. When we picked up the vehicle it was all ready. The paperwork process took less than an hour and we had the keys to the new outback. Not to mention it came with a FREE car starter! Ocean Subaru is the best and showed us how awesome a car buying experience should be. I would never recommend North Reading after the 2 weeks of paper work hell they put us through and would go out of my way to tell people to avoid them. I should have done this a few weeks ago, but I just wanted to acknowledge North Reading Subaru, in particular Dwight O'Hara, for the great service they provided me in the purchase of my 2014 Subaru Forester. As a young person (on a tight budget), the purchase of my first brand new car was a bit nerve wracking, but Dwight made the decision to purchase a Subaru easy. He tracked down the exact model and color Forester that I was interested in, and bent over backwards to negotiate a deal that made this car affordable for me. Once I purchased the car, Dwight took care of the rest (Greg in financing was also very nice!) and got me in my car in less than a week. I couldn't be happier with my new Forester and it's all thanks to Dwight. If you're interested in getting into a Subaru - he's your guy!

I went into North Reading Subaru having done my homework. I was determined to get the vehicle I wanted, equipped as I wanted, and at a good price --whether it was at this dealership or somewhere else. Dwight O'Hara really listed to me saying this and worked with me on that basis.While I test drove a similar vehicle from the lot, Dwight located an Outback that had exactly the equipment I wanted and nothing extra that I didn't. We arrived at a good price that checked out against the research I had done. I was pleased that there was not a lot of drama in this negotiation.My car arrived within 48 hours. I'm normally someone who is pretty distrusting of dealerships but North Reading Subaru really surprised me. Right off the bat, Dwight and Jason made me feel comfortable and treated me like a real person instead of just a potential sale. Dwight listened to what I wanted and made it happen instead of pushing an in-stock car on me. I came away with the EXACT WRX I wanted with the color and options that I choose. The lack of pressure really made the whole experience a great one. Dwight really new the car and was more than happy to answer the myriad of questions I put forward with not only perfect patience but an unwavering pleasant attitude the entire time. Negotiations went smoothly and I came away with a price I was very happy with in the end. Even the extended warranty information was presenting in a very clear-cut "no pressure" manner by Steve who also took all of my questions in stride while clearly explaining various options. From Jason who first contacted me after I filled out a form on the website, to Dwight in Sales, and finally Steve everyone was up-front about every little detail and quite pleasant the whole time. When it came to paperwork, my bank and insurance company are awesome when it comes to protecting their customers. Unfortunately, this means they can be a PITA for 3rd parties (like a dealership) to deal with. Despite this, Dwight really went the extra mile co-coordinating it all and making it come together as smoothly and pleasantly as possible. When I was introduced to the service department, I saw something I don't think I've ever seen in a dealer service department before. People were genuinely happy! Smiling and laughing together while obviously very busy and getting things done. It was quite a contrast to the usual "I hate being here" demeanor I've seen in service departments at various dealerships in the past.Basically what it comes down to is this. North Reading Subaru clearly cares about Customer Service and keeping the customer happy instead of just landing quick sales. I always felt this was how dealerships should operate as it would promote repeat business and more revenue in the long run but most just don't seem to get that. As a result, I plan on taking my beloved new WRX here for all of it's service despite normally completely servicing my past vehicles myself. Had a great experience here. Can't say enough about Dwight; he was a great sales guy, down to earth, low-key, no bs, but very friendly and helpful. He was able to locate the car I wanted, have it in on time, and have all the paperwork and inspection ready when I came to pick it up. I'm not great at haggling, so I have no idea whether I could have gotten a little better price or not. But their prices were definitely competitive, and compared to the experience I had at another subaru dealership in the area a little south of these guys, it was night and day. Dave Melkonian worked with me to insure that I selected the new Subaru that met my needs; including but not limited to a Subaru Legacy that met my requirements for interior color, exterior color, and desired features. He worked hard to get me a purchase price very close what I was expecting. When I picked up the car, David spent one hour going into great detail regarding the features of the Subaru Legacy. He answered all my questions no matter now simplistic or complicated they may have been. North Reading Subaru is 100% customer service oriented by insuring that the new car was cleaned, waxed, and I did not leave the dealership without a new MA State inspection sticker. My wife and I have purchased new vehicles several years ago where another dealership refused to make the effort to have the car inspected and rather put that onus on me. With time management critical, it is worth the wait to have the automobile inspected prior to leaving the dealership. My experience in purchasing a Subaru here at North Reading was a breath of fresh air!; non pressured, friendly, accommodating, virtually painless and anxiety free and I absolutely love driving my new Subaru Outback! This North Reading Subaru dealership came highly recommended by my Pastor Fr. Mario of St Patrick's Parish in Stoneham (see his Subaru review 3/1/12) after he bought his Subaru so I knew for sure I would be in good hands all the way around. True to form, I give high marks and praise to Paul Staffier who took excellent care of me with his infinite patience and tolerance of my 2 days of deciding on the right features, the right price, the custom order of options, test driving 3 cars both Outback and Forester all over creation late into the evening and he provided all the comparative pricing with all of the variations I wanted so I could then 'sleep on it'. Paul knows his 'stuff' inside and out, gives you all the details for as long as you need him there and treats you like you are his one and only customer of the day. Paul is dedicated to his work and makes sure you have no regrets; he puts in long hours and even came in on his day off to accommodate my needs. He was ready to provide a loaner car for me if needed for a couple of days over the weekend while a small service part needed to be replaced but the service was so quick and efficient I was happily surprised to find my car ready to role off the lot from the showroom without any delay on day one of the pickup. So thank you Paul for making me believe again that car salesmen can be honest, caring and genuine!! A special thank you also to Steve in Financing for his efficiency and quelling my anxieties while helping me to decide to get a good car loan as I had just been laid off and needed a new car for starting school in the fall. Though I had not met him, I heard he was also well loved in Stoneham and was a great philanthropist for the town, the Stoneham Theatre, the Stoneham Zoo and St. Patrick's. May he rest in peace. CarWanted an imprezza sport with Kicker audio upgrade pkg(699. Retail ) Had a quote from Manchesteroff of consumer reports. It listed the pkg with included components 10" sub woofer, prem speaker upgrade and tweeter kit. The new salesman discussed the woofer location with my wife and I.We settled on a price equal to the quote I brought with me. I gave up $80 in paperwork costs and lifetime oil changes to do local business. Went to pick up the car on a thur.- NO WOOFER. Salesman said take the car and see how it sounds. We gave you exactly what was on the agreement. He had written speaker upgrade which I assumed included the woofer. Came back the next am as I woke early thinking about it. He said the mgr was off till mon and he'd talk to him and call me. No Call, I had to go back in the afternoon and the sales man Dwight said the mgr had to look into the costs and that I got $699 of retail product. The tweeter kit and speakers retail for $474. He was off on tue. and would call me on wed. No Call again!! Drove to the dealer again and went to the mgr. He said they never heard of the Kicker audio pkg and had not put a woofer in a car all year. I showed him the quote from Manchester which even listed the components. He said his cost for the sub woofer was $620 and was willing to split the cost. I refused and insisted they make good. He would call me on thur. No Call again. Drove back after work. He apologized for not calling. Still no decision now a week later. I wanted to speak with the GM directly but was not allowed. He had enough info. Called today and left a message that I got what I signed for and had taken delivery of the vehicle. Awful customer service- manager included. New salesman did not know his product. Bait and switch ??? Will never go back there for anything. I gave them a chance to correct this before I posted this review.

My new Outback purchase at NR Subaru was overall a pleasant experience in relation to purchases from other auto dealers in my past which had made me distinctly dislike the the thought of ever walking into a dealership again. The employees were friendly, accommodating and efficient with me throughout the transaction. I had the complication of a trade, but they quickly assessed that for me and came back with bottom line numbers. The subsequent negotiation was straightforward, and I felt the deal we arrived at was reasonably fair to all. Fred Hildago, who worked with me most directly was knowledgeable about the product, and did a great job taking care of my needs around an extended test drive, and then coordinating my purchase and pick up of the vehicle. The other employees that I interacted with also contributed to a positive experience. No one put on the salesman show with the associated haggling and pressure for extras, which again was a pleasant change from past experiences. During the time I spent in the dealership, I got a more general feeling from observing others that the atmosphere was one of mutual respect where the employees tried to address customers' questions and needs without trying to push them into decisions. For all of these reasons I would not recommend North Reading Subaru if you are looking to play a 'Lets Make a Deal' reality show with a car dealership, but I would recommend them if you desire a direct, unpressured evaluation of whether to buy a Subaru

Like many others on this site I had a great experience with North Reading Subaru and Dave Melkonian, the whole staff actually. I was car shopping for a long time before coming to NR Subaru and had some really bad experiences at other dealerships. Dave was very friendly, knowledgeable and best of all he was not pushy in the least. Everything felt right and I decided to end my long search for the perfect car at the perfect dealership and they have done a great job taking care of me since. This is a great dealer. The sales staff is very friendly and helpful. I shopped around for a new car for a while. I'm young and I just purcased my first new car. Other dealerships didn't take me serious, one even told me to go walk around the lot by myslef and look at cars even though I had asked them about a specific vehicle already. But North Reading Subaru was where I found my answer. The sales employee(Shawn Melanson) that helped me was sure to answer all my questions about any of the cars on the lot. He then showed me the options available and I told him exactly what I wanted. They didn't have one on the lot but they were quick to order me one from another dealer. If they don't have it they will get it. After I made my final choice it was time to talk money. I shopped around and this was the best deal I found. The finance guy Steve was a huge help and explained everything in detail to me and answered every question I tossed his way. I had a lot of questions because this was my first time financing a car. They treated me like family, not just another customer. I then was taken and introduced to the people in the service department who were quick to congratulate me on my new purchase. They also have a large amount of snacks(including ice cream!) and drinks to munch on while you descide what car you desire. From the big things like a new car to the little things like ice cream North Reading Subaru has it covered. I recommend this dealership to anyone especially first time buyers. North Reading Subaru is great!!! It is a beautiful dealership with a very friendly staff. The "Cafe" has great treats you can help yourself to while you wait. Dave Melkonian was my salesman and was awesome. He understood that this was a serious decision I was making between a Subaru and a Toyota. He was there to answer all my questions and I had many. I dealt with 3 different Subaru dealers during my car search. I definitely was most comfortable with the staff and atmosphere at North Reading Subaru. I started my search back in August and decided it wasn't the right time for me to buy. My experience however with Dave Melkonian was exceptional so I knew that I would consider returning when the time was right for my purchase. I went in prepared to visit many of the various dealers I had looked into in order to get a deal that worked for me, and I had no-haggle quotes from multiple sources as well. I was greeted by Fred Hidalgo, and I was not sure that I wanted to deal with anyone but Dave, but he was tied up with another customer. So, I went through what I wanted with Fred. He didn't oversell me or tell me all sorts of information that I had already researched and familiarized myself with. He was friendly, courteous, respectful and professional, and we came to a deal that was very fair, very quickly. He went the extra mile to assure me when I had some concerns as well. And when things didn't go quite as planned on the timing of delivery he also recovered very well and again went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with the outcome. As owners of a 2003 WRX 5-door wagon who wanted to buy a WRX hatchback ASAP, we went to see and drive a 2012 WRX sedan at North Reading Subaru. We were reluctantly taken outside to see it and then told it was dealer policy not to let anyone drive it. We thanked them and left.The next day we test drove and bought a WRX STI at another local Subaru dealership, where we found the service beyond excellent. In order to test drive the car, we happily gave them a refundable $300 deposit. After the drive, we bought the car.Based strictly on our sales and customer service experience, we would not recommend North Reading Subaru. Here's why: Good sales people greet customers when they walk into the show room. If they state that they want to replace their current Subaru with a new one ASAP, come over and engage with them. If they state that they're there to test drive a specific car and that's not your policy, tell them in the show room. Don't get the keys, walk them outside, and tell them they can't drive it.We LOVE our new WRX STI!

I was going to get the 2012 impreza and Paul was the sales person I talked to, I am not sure if Paul just started to work there or anything else but he doesn't seems like knowing what the car will come with and what kind of option I get out, every time I ask a question he had to go ask someone else to find out. Also I was ordering the car I want, he promised me that it will have the wheels I wanted on it with no additional cost, I didn't trust him since it didn't say it on the brochure therefore I had him write it down on the quote with his signature on it to protect myself. And obviously when the car came in, not only it didn't have the wheels that they promised but they denied that it is their responsibility even I took out the paper they signed, after back and forth with Paul for a while the sales manager Dan come in, told me that they are right and tell me to stop arguing with them and instead of trying to fix the problem he told me this is all I am going to get, either take it or leave it. I had never been treated this way, not even in Wal-mart and this should never happen in a dealer. I am very disappointed at the way they treat their customer when they told me that's the most important thing they care. I will never go back again and better yet there are other dealers that can give me a better deal and treat me how a customer should be.

My car was making a horrible noise and I left a message on a Sunday that I wanted to bring it in on Monday to be serviced. I had never used North Reading before but needed to bring it to an authorized dealer. Annette called me first thing Monday morning and recommended I tow it to the dealership. I arranged for it and met the car there. Unfortunately, while the car was waiting to be evaluated, someone in the parking lot hit it and did not leave any information. Though the dealership was not responsible, with Annette's help, they determined that I should not have to pay for the damage. I could not be more appreciative. As for the noise my car made, I thought the problem was major but it only turned out to be a tire improperly put on so that was fixed and at no cost to me. They could have told me anything and I would have not known the difference. I was very impressed with Annette's communication and caring. I have found a new dealership for my Subaru.

The most impressive thing about North Reading Subaru is the way they treat their customers. Adam was my main point of contact when I went to buy my first car, and I found him to be a terrific guide and resource throughout the process. He was generous with his time and patiently explained everything I would need to know about owning and using my car, including an hourlong exploration of all the car's features when I picked it up. Likewise, Steve, Danny, and Mike showed a great willingness to describe in detail the fees, warranties, options, insurance information... everything I needed to know, no hurry at all. Everyone at North Reading Subaru was fantastic - friendly but not pushy. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and helpful feeling - plus great free snacks! Won't mind hanging out here while the car is serviced. Greg was particularly great to work with - he knew EVERYTHING about the car and its competition. Sloppy work, almost as a rule...My car is a 2007 Subaru Impreza. I had two warranty issues addressed at N. Reading Subaru. The first was the shift indicator light located behind the instrument panel. The part was ordered and it arrived. I made the service appointment, showed up, had the car keyed into the service system, then waited for the repair to be completed. A half-hour went by. The service manager came to tell me that the part had come in, but was missing the bulbs (really?). It was bad enough that the car made it to the end of the assembly line without the part installed the first time. The instrument panel was re-assembled, and I drove away after setting up the next appointment (once the additional needed parts were located). During the disassembly/re-assembly, the repair tech had gotten greasy finger prints on the gauge faces (underneath the clear plastic lens). I had to disassemble the cover and clean them. I just came back from the dealership today after having the driver's side seat rails replaced due to rust. The tech scratched the console of my car when the seats were replaced. Does anyone check their work? Anyone? A great examplpe of bad oversight and poor work.

We searched long for a replacement for our mini-van. After several test drives we decided we wanted a Forester. We went to Subaru of Wakefield first and felt while the salesperson gave us appropriate attention they weren't very conscious of our needs, and would not work with us to think outside the box. After doing some searches we found North Reading Subaru, from the first informational phone call to the subsequent calls and visits, everything was different. Greg was extremely knowledgeable, discussed the difference between the 2011 and 2010 models, and when it was time for a deal, he treated us respectfully and really worked to make sure the deal happened. Even when we had an issue with our financing, they worked with us and we were able to get our car just a few days later than planned. When we picked up the car, everything was ready, David was very patient, answered all of my questions, and took me for a tour of my new car. Have been buying cars for 48 years and this has been the best experience I have ever had dealing with car dealers. Started with Dan Hubbard (internet), he set up the test drive and the location of the particular car/color I wanted.Our salesman was George Benn. He was very knowledgeable of the Subaru Outback and was not overly aggressive (unusual in this day and age). George knew that the color I wanted was not on the lot and he went to another dealer (more than 85 miles away) to get the Outback I wanted. We had worked out the final price before he picked up the car, but the car had more options than I wanted - no problem - the final price did not change. My wife felt very comfortable with all the people at the dealership. They treated her as a customer and not someone who was just there with someone buying a car.The Business Manager was Stephen Bova. Have never seen anyone so organized. Usually this is the part of buying a car I dread. There was no pressure to buy add ons (I did buy the extended warranty, but had planned on buying it before we met Stephen). I had been in contact with 3 other dealers in the area, but I now know that I/we made the right decision in choosing "Melkonian's North Reading Subaru". My girlfriend purchased a used 06 impreza from NR subaru and negotiated an amazing price from sales mang. Mike and received friendly service. The finance manager Steve took the time to examine every detail of warranty options, payments, and gave unbiased feedback. extremely helpful. I was impressed with the positive experience and decided to bring my 04 wrx in for 90k service, which was done promptly and fairly priced.Ultimately, I purchased a 2011 wrx limited from sales rep Rhett Sanders. Extremely knowlegdable with 10 years of experience in the business, came highly recommended from a friend. Truly the polar opposite of a pushy sales person. He asked the right questions to see what I really wanted, and advised me accordingly. Rhett kept in touch throughout the entire process, as they had to ship a black limited in from another dealer that had the options I was looking for. When it came time to go over financing options I had a similarly great experience with Steve who recommended warranty options and sold me on the option to apply autobahnd antiscratch to the front paint and mirrors. This was the most pleasant car-shopping experience I've ever had. Seriously. These guys know their product and their customer service is impeccable. After test driving a 2011 Outback in Wakefield & leaving unimpressed when the talk turned to numbers- the typical back and forth, keep 'em waiting tactic- I decided that proximity to home and "marketing at the mall" lures might not be the best reason to pick a dealership. So I researched all of the Subaru dealerships in MA and North Reading made the short list(thanks yelp.com!.) Greg and business manager Steve were professional, knowledgable and articulate which made the transaction a breeze. It also helped that I had done my homework and had numbers from edmunds.com on the average selling price for the model I was looking for. Was told that I needed a power steering unit and that they did not have Subaru part but would get me a NAPA part. Two hours later, I was told that NAPA delivered the wrong part. Two hours later I was told that the new part did not correct the problem and that I needed a new power steering rack ( Again...a NAPA part). I stopped the foolishness and had them replace all of my original parts so I could get a second opinion. I went to Subaru of New England and they hand picked a mechanic to review my situation. After their mechanic looked at my vehicle, I was told that the power steering unit was fine, the power steering rack was fine, the old belt was fine...I simply needed the power steering belt tightened which corrected my problem. I spent almost seven hours at this dealership and could have been out $2,000 if I hadn't stopped the madness. I am taking the appropriate action with the Mass Attorney General's office to insure that this does not happen to other Subaru owners.

We are delighted at how knowledgeable, friendly, and down to earth Rhett Sanders as a sales person is. My wife and I were trying to decide whether to buy a Subaru Impreza premium automatic (2011) or a 2010 Mazda 3 S hatchback, and after taking a Subaru Impreza for a test ride, with Rhett in our car, we were sold on Subaru. Simply, this guy knows his stuff around cars, and he was able to answer numerous questions we had, ranging from the performance of Subaru vs. other cars, to explaining the future prospects of ownership of Subaru vs. other cars. Simplu, Subaru Impreza felt superior to Mazda 3, although Mazda is also a very good car.The best part here is that did not end up buying our Subaru at this dealership. After Rhett explained everything we needed to know, we told him that we needed to do our due diligence, and just research prices at other dealerships, but that we would still give him the last shot. Whereas other dealers would not let us go, or would behave as if we killed all members of their families - Rhett was totally cool with our decision, and he understood us completely. That made us really inclined to buy our car at his dealership. The next dealer we went to was completely the opposite, so we walked out of there as soon as possible. But the third dealership, which is by the way, gave us a really good deal on the car. I wanted to see how close Rhett could get to the price we were getting, so I gave him a call. He consulted with his manager, but they couldn't get that price. Now, if the price difference was a slight one (let's say, a couple of hundred dollars), we would have still gone with Rhett. But in this case, the price difference between dealerships was quite big, and the harsh economical realities, made us choose the dealer with the better price. But that doesn't diminish our overall experience with North Reading Subaru. The bottom line is if you are thinking of buying a Subaru, go to this dealership and ask for Rhett. He will convince you in a most friendly and non-pressuring way that Subaru is a car for you. The deal we got from a different dealership is just our stroke of luck - it doesn't happen that way often - and again, if our financial situation was just a bit better (we recently lost our brand new leased car in a flood here in MA), we would have definitely gone with North Reading Subaru.

Quite possibly the best car dealership on earth.SpaceA comfortable, clean, bright loft like space; uncluttered and welcoming holds a half dozen cars with a few casual tables to sit and talk and a complimentary snack cafe. There is no chance of finding yourself stuffed with a car salesman into some depressing cluttered cubicle you are grateful isn't your daily work prison.In my fantasy of the perfect dealership the complementary snack cafe would only have fresh fruit, ready to eat veggies, and whole grain real food instead of the processed edible food like substances and health destroying soda Michael Pollan warns us about regularly in the New York Times. There would also be a quiet garden space away from the road. ProcessWhile the activity of learning about and buying a car is still made needlessly difficult by old school car sale people things were very different for me here. (Try finding out the price from Liberty Mazda, they want to keep it a secret unless you have to buy a car from them that very moment. Btw, the Forester is so much peppier than the CX-7 and has AWD too!) Before visiting I called the manager Mike and asked him how I could have a good and hassle free buying experience at his dealership. We discussed specifics of what I was interested in doing, my trade-in, and prices. He arranged for a product specialist, Lucas Casella, to show me the car, tell me all about Subaru, and answer every question I might have. This was wonderful. Lucas didn't sell anything, at any time. He was a fountain of real information, good and bad, about the car (no car is perfect). Gone was the annoying attempts to figure out where in the buying process I was, and the seemingly endless questions from sales people that have nothing to do with their product. Lucas was all about the Subaru and he explained a lot of the reasons why the design evolved the way it did. Subaru does a lot of small, but very smart things to make their products so darn good.PricesWhile we were out with the Forester my trade-in was appraised. The dealership made a reasonable offer, but I wanted to pay about invoice. In a very short back and forth we settled on what was about NADA estimate for my trade-in and invoice price for the Subaru. What little waiting there was I spent on line, they have wireless for guests. This also made it easy to pull up a price quote emailed to me by the crazy local dealer and check other car web sites while making the arrangements. I couldn't imagine making a purchasing decision without all of the pricing data at my fingertips, and North Reading Subaru makes it easy to do so right in their cool loft. (Why go home and look it up, just do it all right there and know that you are getting what you want!)PeopleThis is really what sets the experience apart. It started with Mike the manager, who was honest, direct, reasonable, and personable. Clearly Mike's attitude continued with the people he has hired. The purchase of a 2004 Subaru Outback was a very pleasant experience for me. The Melkonian Subaru Agency is new in North Reading and I believe in shopping where I live. So when I began thinking about purchasing a new car I immediately planned to check the new dealership out. As I entered the showroom I was warmly welcomed by Adam King. The atmosphere was gleaming, the new models sparkled, and huge clumps of happy balloons floated above us! I am so excited about our new Subaru! We drove one hour to get to this dealership because my husband and I heard such great things about them! We went to the dealer with the intention of bringing home our new vehicle today and we were not disappointed. My husband leased a 2006 Impreza and I was concerned since he had gone over his mileage allowance. Not only were they able to get us out of his car without much pain but they made a fantastic deal for us on a 2010 Forester. Rhett (our sales professional) was awesome! He did not pressure us into making a quick decision and he was very knowledgeable about Subaru technology. That is not something that I am normally quick to say either! I brought my mom to North Reading Subaru because I had recently purchased a new Ford Fusion from Stoneham Ford and loved the way I was treated. I knew the same family owned the Subaru store. My mom was interested in the Subaru Legacy. They had a great selection and she quickly found a Legacy she liked. Mike showed us all of the options on the car and made sure that my mom was comfortable before going on the test drive. My mom had done her research online so she knew she was getting a great deal on the advertised price so the deal was done in a few painless minutes.Anyone who has been in the old Honda Barn will be amazed that this is the same building. It's been completely remodeled and is gorgeous!
