This car is awesome! I've had it for 10 years now, bought the bright green RS series 3 brand new. It has 107,000 miles on it and I've had no major mechanical problems with it. Just the usual maintenance. I've had to replace the exhaust gasket twice already, minor. I've also had to replace the engine belts twice due to squealing. The only things that I've had problems with are the power door locks will stick if someone tries to open the doors as you are hitting the unlock button. The cd player also gives me trouble, it wont eject the cd when I press the button, I have to keep pressing it multiple times and it finally spits it out with alot of grinding sounds.. I remember bringing it to the dealership within the first 3 years because the ipod plug was giving me issues. These problems don't bother me enough to fix in a 10 year old car unless they stop working completely. I've also had to replace my windshield twice, this model has some sort of design flaw which places stress on the windshield causing it to crack. By reading other reviews, I seem to be lucky to only have replaced it twice. This car is super roomy, lots of rear leg room. I can fit large pieces of furniture in it, bureaus, dryers, a washing machine. It has high seats, feels like you're sitting upright in a chair. Great visibility all around. I have a roof rack so I throw a 13 foot canoe on top of it very frequently. I also love the tow hooks you can install on the bumpers! Very handy for tying down the canoe! My only complaints are the weak engine, I also will not pull out in front of cars as it has no pep on take off. The front seats have no lower back support, very uncomfortable for long trips. No cruise control, also not convenient for long trips. I personally think the pros outweight the cons with this vehicle. Pretty excited at the super high mileages some of these other reviewers are reporting on these reviews! I'm the type of person who hates having a car payment! I'll drive it into the ground before I buy a new car. Thanks for reading!

I am doing this review for my sons car. 2012 my son bought a 2006 Scion xb. It had extremely low miles on it when he bought it. Being a newby buyer he didn't want my help, lol. Last yr he decided to try and sell it and odometer read 92K miles on it (9 yrs old at the time). Someone loved it and ran a carfax on it. To his dismay it said that it had around 350K on it at the time he bought it, which leads to the fact that someone turned the odometer. Anyway - He has owned it 4 yrs and still owns it. He has never had to put any work into it other than the normal maintenance. This car currently is 10 yrs old and has over 400K miles on it and just keeps on ticking. I am just amazed what a phenomenal little car this is despite the mileage issues. I just had to rave on my sons behalf!!! OH! There is one thing that was bad with the car and that was the back latch which I guess is a history on this car breaks. We had it fixed and just an amazing car. I will describe my son in the "Describe Yourself" below part.

Bought the car new on 06. Ten years later, and 186,000 miles it is still going strong. We've made the NY to FLA trip 6 times, ski and never a problem. No major repairs ever- only scheduled maintenance and oil changes. Simply put- the best car we've ever owned.

I had my 2006 Scion xB for seven years. Bought it at 63K miles and crashed it at 228K miles. Totaled on a deer going 70 down the interstate and both me and my boyfriend didn't have a scratch! I never had a problem out of mine besides some basic motor part replacement and I had to replace the A/C pulley once. My dad is a mechanic and said it's super easy to work on and maneuver around the engine. Maintenance and repairs were cheap at other mechanics too, not just my dad. This is by far the best car I could have had and I'll be going to pick up my new '06 Scion xB tomorrow. This car rocks!

My 2006 XB was my first new car purchase and I researched and researched and compared and compared until it was obvious she was the one. The only thing I ever regretted was thinking maybe I should have gotten the blue instead of the thundercloud silver. That's it! This car was perfect and even kept me safe when an 18 year old driver gunned her engine and smashed her head on. This car was so reliable and had such great gas mileage and the cargo space especially, MUAH! With the front seats and back seats down there was nothing I couldn't haul. Amazing. Oh the visibility and height! They should have kept with this design it was near flawless. It it had better interior lighting and wasn't so light on hills and wind this would be the perfect car for all families and types. I'll miss you ThunderCloud but this is LA I'm sure she'll be on the streets in other forms her parts were too perfect to truly die.

I still love my 2006 Scion xB. It is about to turn 9 years old in a couple of months. I drive it a lot and it still gets about 30 mpg city and 34 highway. I am going to get it painted and hopefully keep it another 9 years. It is very roomy and I use it for my small business. I can't find another one with this much cargo space and I definitely don't want a car payment ever again.

I always thought these toasters were so ugly. Well I needed a car and this car at the time you got the most for your money. I can fit a dryer in the back of this thing ( yes a dryer to for your clothes). I do feel less manly driving it but you can't beat the interior room, gas mileage and price. It is a little sluggish and I am hesitant to pull out in from of other cars. I think this would be a great car for a business or someone who just drives in the city. . I think this would be a great car for older people with knee or hip problems because it is so easy to get into and out of or for someone who is getting in and out of the car all day long.

245,567 MILES and still going! I got this 2006 scion xb when I moved out 70 miles from my work. I ran this car for 5 years driving to work and back. I LOVE IT! Its really fun to drive and made my commute much easier. I get over 300 miles per tank. This is a reliable car.. I have replaced about 5 sets of tires and about 50 oil changes. Will never get rid of this CHAMP!

We purchased this car in '06. I will not ever buy another XB. We had one expense a year ago that ran over $600 to fix. Currently, we have a leaking water pump - another $500. This is a lemon! We had a slight bump up a year ago. A car bumped into us. The whole front bender had to be replaced. We didn't have to pay for this but it has made me realize how unsafe this car is. I hate driving it on the interstate. This will be our last XB. I told my husband we should have purchased another Camry.

I purchased my Scion XB brand new in "06 with 6 miles on the speedometer. I use it like a cargo van for my business. It can hold two huge white Igloo ice chests with room to spare plus two bikes and a kayak on top for camping. I had mine fitted with a Yakima rack system on top. I get great milage unless its loaded down. Normal Hwy is 36 mpg with two people and minimal baggage. It only gets about twenty when loaded down, but wth, It beats driving my one ton truck.

Exceptional headroom and legroom, front and rear. Flexible cargo options with 60% split, folding rear seats plus passenger seat folds flat for those long items. I find the center mounted gauges and speedometer in the xB a definite plus, not obscured by the Steering wheel.. Could use an additional 4"-6" of space behind the rear seats, side airbags, more sound insulation, an upgrade to the economical 1.8L Corolla Engine, the split front bench seat as sold for the Japan market, and a true console. city car. The 2006 xB appeals to both youth and to seniors. Ideal car for service workers as well. The 2008-2011 xBs are too heavy with too big an engine, killing fuel economy.

I bought the Xbox brand new in 2007 and love it. So far I've put 40k miles on it and have no mechanical issues with it. People still comment about its styling and when they get in it they are amazed at the amount of legroom in both the front and back. I don't know how they did it, but I swear this thing is bigger on the inside than the outside. It still cracks me up when I pull into a parking spot and the thing only fills up about half the spot.

I had this car for almost 5 years and put 82K miles on it. I never had to bring it to the shop outside of oil changes, breaks, and a new set of tires. The car is very light and the wind can push you pretty hard. I got into an accident and rolled the car four times landing on the roof. I walked away without a scratch. It’s a good car for the money cheap to maintain but not very comfortable for long drives. The engine is very loud over 40 mph.

I absolutely loved this car. I bought it used and had it for a little over a year. I couldn't design a better car. It's small size and abundance of windows made it easy to parallel park. It was fun to drive - I never had a problem accidentally speeding on the highway or passing other cars. I could fit an amazing amount of stuff in the trunk (with seats down, of course). When you're sitting in the backseat there is an amazing amount of head and leg room. The wind didn't blow it around on the highway like it did my Geo Tracker (i was worried about this when buying another boxy car). Love it so much I am looking to buy another one right now!

Bought my xB a year ago with 28K miles on it. Pure stock with automatic. Driving around the Northern VA/DC area averaging 32-33mpg, max mpg was a trip between NVA and Williamsburg - 38mpg. Ride is OK for a small car, handling fantastic. Keep the RPMs around 3K and your mpg will be great (that will give you 70mph on the highway). I call it my mini-truck. Hauls a LOT of stuff. I plan on running until it dies! Maintenance costs are a bit stiff if you follow the book and go to the dealer, but overall a fantastic little car.

I had wanted this car forever so I finally got it about a week ago. The sign on the window said "33 mpg". Right. It averages MAYBE 20 so far and that's highway miles. My VW did better than that and that's the reason I got rid of it! I NEEDED 33mpg. Anyway, love the car otherwise. I love the box, it is comfy, radio and sound is awesome and totally customizable.

The XB was designed with the young in mind, but I think they missed it altogether! It is a senior's car! It has excellent visibility and performance, and you can get in and out without scalping yourself or pretzelizing your body! We get 38 MPG, which helps on a retirement income too! and we heartily recommend the XB to all Old timers like us. I'm 88 years old.

This is my second Scion XB. The first one, a 2004 w/ XM sattellite radio, I bought new. Had it for a 2 years. I was rear-ended twice, then the third time I was rear-ended by a full size Chevy cargo van going 45 mph. The car gave its life so I might live. It was totalled, I walked away. So, I got another one, this time a 2006. These cars do not go accelerate fast with the a.c. on going up a mountain, but the $30.00 to fill up the tank is the payback. I get around 37 mpg up here in the mountains of New Mexico. It goes in the snow, but deep snow would be a problem. Maintenance is easy, you can do it yourself, but changing the belts is a little tight, you need to jack the car up.

I bought my Scion after news of our second baby arrived, so the xB replaced a V8 Magnum Dodge Dakota 4x4 with extended cab (sweet truck). Hard as it was to trade in my cool & manly truck, I was thinking about 3 things: Ease of getting baby and belongings in and out; passenger room; and gas mileage (my truck guzzled gas!). I test drove several cars, including a new VW Jetta, but none of them had the gas mileage, ease of entry and egress, and passenger room as the xB. Considering my needs it was a no brainer. I've never had a failure, breakdown, broken part, etc. with this car. It drives great in deep snow with cables, and the Pioneer stereo kicks. The features for the price were unbeatable.

Bought this used after owning a Ford Explorer SportTrac. I'm a 52 YO dad with a 9-year-old kid and this is the first truly cool/hip vehicle I've ever owned. I find myself smiling uncontrollably as I bop around town in this thing. Even my kid thinks it is/we are cool. The headroom is amazing The seats are beyond comfortable. I love paying $30 to fill it, rather than $60. I haven't had this much fun since the Fiat 124 in the 1970s (also a misunderstood vehicle).

Very unique, Everyone comments on the "Toaster on wheels" shape of the car love walking out to my car, cant help but smile when i drive it around at 30- 32 MPG with a/c blasting against the Texas sun. Loads of room inside, ergonomics make a lot of sense. its very simple and roomy everywhere. (looking around before buying a saw a lot of them, if you are in the market make sure to check several things, the front and rear plastic clip on bumpers in many cases seem to get damaged and should be checked as getting replacements color matched will be expensive. Also beware of certain aftermarket wheels in some cases they trigger the Indicator lights b/c of the way it reads MPH.

I do a lot of highway driving and this car is great. I get about 34 MPG sometimes more. People always say it's so small, but when you get them inside, they're always impressed with the space. We've hauled a lot of big stuff in it while moving, have had 5 adults fit for a comfortable ride, and have never had any problems with the car itself. We live in WI, and I've never gotten stuck in the snow, even when we had 19 inches this winter! The only thing i wish was different would be the suspension, it's pretty bumpy on some roads. We also had to have the windshield replaced from a random crack that split all the way across. We bought a Yaris this year - Love Toyota's small cars!

Very few cars available on the USA market make sense at any level. The original Scion xB (example 2006)is such a car. I check the mileage at every fill up. Worst ever, 33. Best ever, 35. The 2006 is light weight (good) small engine (good) and cheap (great). I drive the 5-speed. Owners with the automatic have themselves to blame. The xB proves that "It is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow." I go past everyone in my xB and they have twice the engine, they just drive like slugs because they bought big hoggish cars and they are disgusted with the driving experience. Don't add weight, horsepower, or engine size! Too late, the newest xB did all three. Whoops! USA marketing!

Purshased this car new in 2005. I can not say enough good things about it and I have had 57 cars...by actual count. I don't know what the guy is doing that got only 14 mpg, but I think he needs a new calculator. I have never gotten less than 26 mpg and even got 40.1 mpg on one freeway trip with one aboard. I know it looks nerdy but it is more fun to drive than any car I have ever had(the list includes sport cars, Mercedes, Volvos, etc.). We have 90K on the box and expect to go to 200K then give it to a grandchild.

I had a Camry Hybrid, which was great for fuel economy and comfy to ride, but the huge battery ate up all the trunk space and that was a problem getting several guitars and amps to rehearsals and gigs. I wanted something small but with max cargo space, so I gravitated to the XB. I was blown away by the space inside this little car. I recently drove from LA to NYC in 3 days, with 4 guitars, a banjo, a mandolin, a couple duffle bags, my miniature schnauzer and my little sister. We drove through desert, over mountains and through a day and a half of pounding rain, and I love that little XB even more now!

What a super car! I've owned many cars before, but none even come close to my stylish, fun, zippy little Scion XB. I've had my car for three plus years and have very few complaints. The most pressing is the number of times I've had to have my windshield repaired. Because of the angle it seems to attract every stray stone or pebble. Also, my ground effects have been damaged a couple of times (mostly my fault). Aside from that, it runs great, looks great, good gas millage, fun to drive, great stereo, I-Pod compatible, very reliable and totally COOL! I strongly recommend that any cool people, who want an equally fun, reliable and affordable ride, run, don't walk, and get yourself one!

As a commuter vehicle this is the best vehicle I have found. I am above average in size and needed a vehicle with the best overall fuel economy. I averaged 33 mpg overall with this car. I drove it daily back and forth 50 miles per day to work. I would be driving it now however my employer provided me with a company car. It was low cost to maintain and on fuel. It is nice looking vehicle for a box and served the purpose it was purchased for. I would highly recommend the xB to anyone looking for a low cost, reliable, fuel efficient vehicle. If they happen to be 6'9" tall they can drive in comfort also.

I needed a car for small deliveries and sales calls. I did not want this car, but it made sense financially. I keep very detailed mileage records and it never matters if you are highway or city it is always between 29.5 and 33 miles per gallon. The A/C matters little to my overall mileage, even with the A/C running. I have 80000 miles on it and only one small issue with a switch. It is exactly as it is promoted for an inexpensive vehicle and I recommend this car mightily.

This car is fine for running around town. I am assuming the gas mileage is ok as long as you don't use the air condition. Which is Southern California is next to impossible. Once the AC is used the gas mileage is horrible. With AC use gas mileage goes down to about 14mpg. Overall an ok car for around town errand, but next time I will buy something with a bigger engine so the air conditioner doesn't kill the gas mileage.

Fun to drive, very versatile, reliable, economical, and safe. 1. Fun: with decent tires this handles like a mini-BMW. Firm yet smooth ride, with good cornering. Noisey, but the 160 watt stereo takes care of that. 2. It's a minivan & SUV with a cavernous interior. "Ten gallon hat" headroom and expansive leg room front AND rear. Both front seats fold flat creating a double bed (don't tell your teenager), OR fold the rear seats creating a minivan cargo space. 3. Toyota reliability and smart simplification. 4. It gets 30mgh city and 34mpg highway, its True Cost to Own is among the lowest in the world. 5. Dual airbag, ABS, stability control, brake assist, and great visibility.

I bought my Scion xB brand new off the showroom floor. I have never had any trouble with it whatsoever. I average about 34 mpg. It still gets looks and questions from people and even though the engine could use a little more horsepower it's still a pleasure to drive and is very reliable. I recommend it to everyone I meet, especially to owners of the Honda Element which only gets about 22 mpg and has suicide doors for those who sit in the back seat. The Scion xB is definitely an awesome, reliable, roomy car that will fulfill anyone's desires for a reliable and roomy car.

i really like this car, mostly for its height. getting out i only need to swivil and stand up. i bought it used, i think the previous owner beat it up. its new to me but i just tested the mileage andonly got 26mph, very disappointing, will try to find out why. my criticisms are 1. the only headlight is inadaquite, should have one over the front. 2. needs alot of rm. to park if you need to open the back,3. a little too noisy, and i bought it with a cracked windshield. didnt know it was a cronic problem. but i love how much you can see, lots of window space. also all the little spaces to hold things, fall all over the place. not deep enough. i love toyot, cant imagine driving any thing el

I bought it from the dealership used, and it was upgraded with Limo Tint, and nice 18' inch rims and tires. Well, I dont know if the problems I have had with the car are the manufacturers fault, or maybe the fact that I have 18' wheels on a car that normally has 14'.But, the ride is NOT smooth at all. Its insanely bumpy at times, especially living in Southern California, and having pot holes everywhere. There have been many MANY times Ive muted my sound because I thought for sure I ran someone/something over because its so loud. Also, the MPG is a lot lower then I thought it would be, I get about 220-250 miles per tank.

The front and back end designs are poor. The front end drags on anything too high, pulls the front end bumper and grill off very easily. Then, the plastic fasteners break, leaving the front end hanging. Pushed back in, even the wind can pull it off. Dangerous. Should be a recall.

I have long been a Toyota fan and loved this little "xbox" from the get go. I purchased mine a year ago and I have really enjoyed it. I am a big guy and I find that most cars are uncomfortable and cramped. Not so with this one!!! I can sit in the front or back and have plenty of head and leg room. I work as a REALTOR and all of my clients are surprised by the roominess of my xB. Mine has the TRD cold air intake and exhaust, so I have improved horsepower and gas mileage. I average about 30 in town and I have gotten 38 on the highway, while loaded with 4 people, and luggage, driving at 80 mph. This car had my full approval and gets a great big thumbs up!!!

I would buy another....

I looked at Honda, Hyundai and Toyota cars and suv's and the xb won hands down. My local dealers didn't have any in stock so I found mine at seeger Toyota in St. Louis, mo. I flew in and my salesman even picked me up at the airport and was truly a great guy that had my xb washed and full of fuel. I am in my 50s and own and drive street rods and race cars I still have a blast driving my little"xbox" I also get a chuckle out of the other old guys that don't get it.

My 2006 Scion xB is definitely a "fun car" to own and drive. It fits me like a comfortable pair of shoes, handles reasonably well -- no, exceptionally well for a car of its size, engine & transmission -- in both city traffic and on the interstates, and never fails to elicit comments even from complete strangers. When I pay attention to the tach, I can generally get almost 30 mpg in stop and go city traffic, barring a complete traffic jam, and almost 34 mpg on long trips at sustained speeds up to 75 mph if I keep the tach at or under 3000 rpm.

So glad I bought this thing before the new one came out (yuck!). It's the best car I've ever had. Fun to drive, gets good mileage, extremely useful to haul large objects, I could go on and on. You can even push the front seat to connect the back and take a nap. This is not a performance vehicle, so don't expect much of that. With the stick, it merges just fine on the freeway. My only gripe is the cheap plastic faux-lowrider crap around the outside of the car. If you want a great little car that's a blast to drive, this is a good choice.

I bought this car new. I had to pay extra for cruise and a cheap piece of plastic with a cloth covered piece of plastic called an arm rest. my elbow barely fits on. This did add a rear cup holder which made it better. My windshield suffered a stress crack 6 days after i purchased and i have rode around with a cracked windshield ever since. This is a well known problem but not covered under warranty. Have strange rattle in dash that is annoying. Cruise control is a cheap after market piece of plastic. It does not stay at a constant speed so i never use it. Also is not flushly mounted. Over all this is a cool car with great mpg and room but misses the mark on the small things.

Ok, the 2006 xb is ugly but because of that design the interior space is amazing! My wife averages 31 mpg in daily commuter driving including stop-and-go traffic. The interior feels cheap and the ride is stiff. You sit very high for a small car which improves visibility. Not much power from the 1.5 liter engine but who cares with that gas mileage. Very cheap to purchase new, only costing $15,000 with the optional cruise and armrest. The rear liftgate is the entire height of the car so its a bit awkward to open. The cruise control is awful to use as it drops 3 to 5 mpg before engaging, but once it does it works fine. This is the best car for the money and thats why the resale is so high

I've had my Scion XB for about a year and a half and think it's great. It gets excellent gas mileage and visibility is very good. My Scion has a rattle almost from day one on the driver's side dashboard. Dealer has tried two or three times to fix it but can't seem to find it. Also the interior lighting is too dim. Can't find anything at night. Very, very uncomfortable on long trips -- 3 hours plus. I do enjoy driving it locally -- easy to park, brakes work well, low maintenance, etc. But at 27,000 miles, my tires are just about worn out. I have rotated the tires every 3 to 4,000 miles. I guess this must be average. Anyway, I'd buy it again if I had the chance.

This is actually the second xB that I have owned! I haven't had any problems from this car. I totaled the first xB that I owned, and walked away (from a crash that I shouldn't have) without a scratch. With this xB, I have been hit in the rear, and though the dent was big, there were not injuries. Like most people, I wasn't to fond of the car, and then I got behind the wheel. I LOVED it. My first xB was a manual, and had a little more "get up and go," but I love my automatic for convenience.

2 weeks after I bought my 'toaster on wheels', I went on a 1450 mile golfing trip with my golfing bud. Considering the weight of both of us, golf bags and the luggage, about 600 lbs, doing between 70 & 80 MPH through the West Virginia mountains, and running between courses, I averaged 34.5 MPG. Around home I get 36-38 MPG. Great vehicle, lots of room inside and fun to drive. Best purchase I've ever made.

Traded a 2000 Jetta for this because we had a 2nd kid on the way. No chance we'd all fit in the Jetta. It's been fantastic. I used to miss my manual, but I've gotten over that. I'm 6'2" and have plenty room all around. Even the infant seat fit behind me. Plus it has calmed down my driving. There was an instant 10mph slow-down on the highway. Then, as gas prices kept rising I've dialed my old man driving skills way up.

Why would anyone want a 2008 Xb. I could have bought a new 2008 but I looked for 6 months for a clean, low mileage 2006 because of the better gas mileage, greater headroom and legroom. I own a 2005 Grand Caravan a 1999 Tacoma and the 2006 Scion. The BOX is my favorite and I drive it most of the time. Most things you buy 6 months later you wish you still had your money in your pocket. Not with the Scion, We love it. I think with gas projected to be 4.50 a gallon by midsummer that Toyota screwed up with the new 2008 Scion.

Cheap sounding rear hatch when closing. Be careful opening if not unlocked plastic mechanism will break. (replaced under warranty.) Good gas mileage (30) road, less than sticker indicated, checked several times. Arm rest optional, should be std. Little noisy on road at high speeds. Will not hold speed using cruise controls on hills and noisy when cruise downshifts. Std. Cruise would be nice, currently optional. Handles well on mountain curves. Needs additional lighting in rear interior. Wish I had waited for 08 as it is about 1 ft. longer. I need the extra space as I am in sales and need the room for catalogs and samples. Overall this car is acceptable given the reasonable price

This car is perfect for our family. It seems if you have kids, you must either have the gas guzzler SUV or the sooo suburban minivan. But the xB you get the ability to put your kids in the car without excessive reaching or knocking the kids' heads on the doors, great gas mileage, and just enough room to carry their stroller and groceries in one trip. Not a great traveling car, but since I only use it in the city to cart my kids around, it's perfect!!

I added undercoating, cold air intake, cat back exhaust, driving lights, euro style rear lights, and this vehicle is now quieter, peppier, gets improved mpg, which adds much to a fun to drive machine, in my opinion. It is a little under powered, but I bought it not to be a race car but a good looking, fun to drive and different looking vehicle. I also added graphics on the sides which gave it a dramatically neater look. I have been very pleased and will probably hold onto this one for many years because it is so much fun to drive!

Then the guy at the dealer told me not to put down the car untill you drive it, so I did and ended driving it home. I have been driving my Scion for four mounths and now I love it. It offers plenty of space, a good stereo system and the comfort of higher priced cars. I also love the fact that you can customize the car to however you want it. Overall, I have had no buyer's remorse after purchasing this car. It's truly an engineering marvel considering how small it looks from the outside in comparison to how big it is on the inside. The exterior had to grow on me for awhile before purchasing it, but after seeing the inside I was sold. Buyers beware: if you are expecting some high performance, high-end vehicle, you should not purchase this car. The small 4-cylinder engine does have trouble in passing and uphill situations. The interior is basic, yet very functional. So far I have not yet achieved the estimated gas mileage (about 28 mpg in mixed city and highway driving).

I have a Scion xB, from Toyota. I bought it new and it now has 900 miles on it, but I can see why "You love it, or hate it, no gray area." It is perfect for their wrong target area, 62 year-olds, they aimed 18-40 year-olds. I'd buy another in a heart beat if I could. Buy the pre-2008 model they will be instant classics. They changed the style. If I had room and the money I'd get one in every color and series. Its Performance would be a 10 if it went 0-60 mph in the 4 second range, just missed :-)

I purchased my xB because I was attracted to its unique shape, efficiency, interior space, and low price. I bought it with the full intention of customizing it a bit to express my personal style. After a year of ownership my xB has served me well without a single hiccup. It delivers excellent gas mileage when its warm-around 32 mpg, however falls to a dismal 25/26 mpg when it's cold out. I love the xB's funk factor and unique shape. The kids especially love it; once at a drive-in, a little boy called it a little limo. However, the xB suffers from lackluster materials, and is certainly not meant for highway driving. At high speeds (75+) the xB's engine is overwhelmed @ 3700 RMP and starts to suck gas.

I did a lot of research before I bought this car, and I have no regrets! I bought the 5-speed manual. We live in snow country and it handles like a dream with studded tires. There is a ton of room inside. I like the look of the car. I have averaged 32 mpg from the start. The only thing I missed was a center arm rest but hey, with the over all quality and gas mileage that's not a biggie. Yes I know I can buy a center arm rest, but thought it a bit pricey. I had a PT Cruiser for many years, and did not give it a second thought when I drove away in my xB. I don't feel this car lacks power but then, I don't feel the need to drive at 70 mph, 55 mph is just fine.

This car runs great, is fun to drive and is pretty cool! The 18" Alloy wheels look great, but the ride is pretty hard. Next time I'll go for the 15" alloy wheels. All around, I would buy another one tomorrow! The car is a blast! It could use a little more power, but it's OK the way it is.

The Scion xB has great interior space for a tall man and it is as reliable as a Toyota, of course. My only wish is for a bit more sound-deadening of the interior and a bit more comfort (brighter interior dome light, softer seating, etc.) - perhaps there should be a Lexus xB?

I absolutely love my Scion xB. The only problem I have had with it is the windshield keeps cracking. I took it to the dealer before he even looked at it he automatically said the "stone chip" which I really didn't think twice about until I searched the internet. It seems a lot of people have this same exact problem their windshield. It cracks for no apparent reason, starting at above the rear view mirror. I went back to the dealer to complain about it. All he said was, "well what do you expect the windshield is straight up and down." If they pitch you that line, don't buy into it. I had a Jeep Wrangler for 10 years with 200,000 miles on it. The windshield is almost vertical and it never cracked.

My conclusion from owning the stick shift model for 5 months: this car is perfect for the city, but bad for the highways. It's been like owning an SUV without sacrificing fuel and city parkability. it's one of the shortest cars on the market and lets us fit into all kinds of super-small parking spots here in Philly. However, the manual gear design disregards the reality of speeds of the US highways. 5th gear: 80MPH/4000RPM, 90MPH/5000RPM - not a gas saver and the engine gets pretty loud. Don't believe the EPA estimates. Also, the default suspension option is pretty rough (wishing we upgraded).

Beware of the gas mileage in the city. We get maybe 22-24 mpg in the city, which is nowhere close to the 31 mpg that is says on the sticker. Besides that, the car is worth the less than $15,000 and it is even better with a few cosmetic upgrades.

I love the driving experience in town and on the road! I have added a middle arm rest (which should be std.), cruise control (which also should be std.), driving lights (should be std), euro style rear lights (nice addition), undercoating (really reduced the road noise), a cold air intake and cat back free flow exhaust (they really improved the performance and mpg), new wheels and a $600 graphics wrap job to produce a very satisfying and distinctive ride. I love my new little doodle bug. Its low initial cost allowed me to make the additions that I wanted.

The main problem I have with the car is broken windshields. I have looked around online and no one seems to be bringing this little design flaw up. I have owned my xB for about six months now and I have had to replace the windshield glass seven times. That means seven entirely new pieces of glass have been installed on the car. That is just insane. This week alone I have had to replace the glass three times. Each time the glass has cracked/chipped, the first time was two days after I purchased the car, I was driving between 40-70mph and have been about 4-10 car lengths away from the person in front of me. I am taking a loss and getting rid of the car tonight.

I bought the xB for it's cheap price tag and great gas mileage. It has a very spacious interior and great gas mileage. I use less than a tank of gas for driving under 300 miles a week. The sound system is awesome. The 1.5L engine has quite enough power for this light weight (2,500 lbs.) vehicle. It has more get up and go than the 2003 Saturn 2.2L I had with better gas mileage to boot. What more could you ask for? It has good reliability with its Toyota drivetrain, spacious interior, and "unique" exterior. The xB is a nice highway cruiser too, and it's fun to drive. Don't believe the naysayers. I don't need the cruise control. I've never really used it in the other cars I've had cruise control in.

When I first bought the car it was a smooth, quiet ride. Now, that I have put 13,000 miles on it, it shakes, rattles, and rolls. There is so much interior noise and the interior is made with cheap looking plastic. It gets good gas mileage but, is terrible on the highway and has no acceleration and the throttle hesitates. I love the fact that the whole car has a lot of space especially in the back seat. I do a lot of highway driving and it's a comfortable ride. If you're looking for a car with high performance, this is not your car. Get the tC instead. If you're looking for a car to drive around town to get you from point A to point B then this is the car for you!

Though I've only had this car for a few months, I've taken it on five 800 mile trips (13-14 hours each). The car is very comfortable. I only wish I has sprung for the cruise control. It is very fuel efficient (30 mpg), yet less powerful than my '94 Ford Mustang, but for what I save in gas I wouldn't even consider complaining. The back seat is extremely roomy; everyone is surprised by how spacious the entire car is. I wanted a inexpensive and fuel-efficient vehicle that would be able to fit some cargo without any problems, and this is it. I like that this "toaster oven on wheels" looks different. If you are concerned about style, get the wheel upgrade, it really makes the car look nice.

The Scion xB was meant to be for the younger generation, but it appears that a good number of older folks are finding it to be quite the car. The gas mileage does not lie. We get 31-32 mpg in town and 33-34 hwy. This car has plenty of zip to merge onto freeways. It has lots of glass and and it easy to see out of. All of the glass except for the windshield can be cleaned by standing outside. Sometimes the rear window is a bear to get to. The back seats lay down to allow more cargo space. We like to think of it as a poor man's SUV. One thing I've found odd is that most used xBs seem to cost more than the new ones. Maybe that is because they have more extras when bought new.

I've had my Toasty for a week now, but have wanted her for a year. I test drove Scions (as well as other vehicles) and researched them extensively. I LOVE driving her. She's Salsa Red Pearl. The gas mileage is unbelievable and the room she has is awesome as well. I love how these cars come equipped with really cool standard features that you have to pay extra for on other vehicles. She is so much fun to drive and I love how other Scion xB drivers always wave to me. I wanted to get the Yakima racks as an option but the dealer told me the racks had to be port-installed. I installed them myself and it was a bit tricky but I recommend it for the savings vs. financing them with Scion.

My qualifications for picking a new car were simple, low ownership cost and big space. At 6'3", 300+ pounds, this eliminated a lot of the under 20 grand cars out there. It boiled down to the Chevy HHR, Chevy Aveo, Pontiac Aztec, Mazda3, and the xB. The xB was the last one I test drove and I immediately fell in love with it. There is an insane amount of room (even for me). The price is fantastic, and when you figure in the low insurance costs and great gas mileage, it gets even better. Not to mention I LOVE the no haggling pricing system. I got mine nicely equipped (even got the blue lights....ooh pretty) for around $18,000 out the door. Hands down this is the best car for the money!

I do love my new Scion xB however, with less than 500 miles on it, I already had to fix a chip in the windshield and there is already a paint chip missing on my hood from the same gravel that hit my windshield. This car seems to be prone to chips and nicks. My previous car was an '03 Corolla, I went 3.5 years without one chip on my windshield. I guess I will be buying lots of touch-up paint. It can be a fun car and for most people it probably is, but the construction is POOR. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy it. If you want a car that is fuel efficient and performs reasonably well on the freeway, this car is it. But it is really noisy. All the doors and dashboard rattle so loudly that you can hear it over the radio, unless you set the volume high all the time. It's been to dealer three times, the first two times they fixed it, now they claim they don't hear any unusual noise. If you don't mind loud rattling noise they buy this piece of junk. Note: the dealer's loaners with less than 10,000 miles were extremely bad with rattling noise as well, so this is a pattern is all their cars.

The xB is fun to drive, has more room than you could image, and it gets great gas mileage. Looking at the outside I thought it would be small inside, but NO. I have a 300 pound 6 ft. 3 in. husband and there is still plenty of room in the back seat when he drives. I would like for it to have more get up and go but I'm a lead foot person. After doing research (we are talking spreadsheets) on hybrids and other fuel efficient vehicles, I settled on the xB. I am 6'3" and commute at least 80 miles a day, 5 days a week. Additionally, I truck around clients to show real estate and needed good legroom all around. Lastly gas mileage, dependability, and resale value were taken into account. This little box financially makes sense and is fun and comfortable. Doing it again, I would have gotten silver instead of black (had to try black once in my life) and an automatic transmission as I wear dress shoes to work (little pedals and Rockports don't mix), but this is no fault of the car's by any means. This vehicle is so functional it makes you question ALL other vehicles.

It has so much interior room that you have to see it to believe it (you have to sit in one and you'll see for yourself - it's amazing on the inside). I test drove this car and fell in love. It has so much room. As i was making a trip I heard a loud pop and there was a crack in my windshield there is no one around me to throw up a rock or anything. I took the car to my dealer after six days of ownership. They said it was a rock crack and I would be responsible for replacing it. I looked online and there are tons of people who are having mysterious cracks appear in their windshields. I can't afford to be payin' for a new windshield every six days. Scion is gonna have to step up and fix this problem.

This car is a bargain for the price. It has many standard features and the one I purchased (thankfully) had factory cruise and arm rest (definite necessities). I bought this solely as a commuter car that is also spacious enough to get kids in and out of the car seats. There is ample room for both driver and passengers. I can average 32 mpg without a lead foot and do a lot of gliding to stops and about 28 mpg if at full throttle all the time. This doubles the gas mileage compared to my previous truck. The handling is superb and unfortunately you would expect it matched with a much peppier engine. But a larger engine would kill the gas mimleage, so that's an expected trade off.

I love the box. It has so much room and how you're seated provides a great view of the road. Its leg room is excellent, even in the back seat. I have a son who's 350 lbs. + and 6'3" and he loves the room. It has a great stereo. It feels good on the road, it is as much fun to drive as my first Bug that I got back in 1973. So many people want to sit in it and drive it, Toyota should be paying me. A work associate who is almost six feet nine inches tall said it was the first vehicle he ever got in in his life he did not have to duck to get into. And the 33 mpg is great.

I wanted a car with more space for hauling and something that would get good gas mileage too. My Scion xB has exceeded all my dreams. My car is getting 35 mpg in the city! It is fun to drive; it handles great, and its visibility is amazing. It's litte on the outside (a dream to park!) and huge on the inside. I don't know how they do it but glad they did. I had a sunroof installed and love it, with the satelite XM radio, or my iPod playing through the speakers, sunroof open...it just doesnt get any better! Also, this car is SO easy to get in and out of. Senior passengers LOVE it! If you want a fun, zippy, roomy, inexpensive car for running around, I highly recommend it! I love this car. :-)

This is the car to own, I love it! I bought it to have a reliable car to get back and forth to work with. Now that I have it I don't think I will ever want to get rid of it. For the price and standard features you get, I was simply amazed. $15,200 out the door (that's tax tags and everything!) I do not recommend getting options from the dealer. The extras are so overpriced (armrest, leather steering wheel..etc) unless you want them rolled up in the loan amount, get them off eBay from a reputable seller. I've done a lot of things to my box to personalize it, but just the standard car is great! I didn't like these when I first saw them, but once I went to the dealership I feel in love!

This is a great vehicle for someone who needs a lot of room for a little bit of money. This car is fun to drive, the handling around turns is great, even on wet roads. I'm a little over 6' tall and finding a comfortable car is hard for me, but the xB has plenty of foot and head room. I've been getting about 33-34 mpg with it and thats important to me because I drive quite a bit. My only complaint so far would be that Scion shows as a standard feature the audio controls on the steering wheel and mine did not come with that.

My wife and I are in our 50's and we absolutely love this car. We were looking for something economical to buy, economical to operate, and fun to drive! We sure found it in the Scion Xb. I've always liked small cars. The first car I ever bought was a '63 Volkswagon Beetle. I've owned eveything from small pick-ups to a Porsche 914 and a Honda CR-V, but the xB is the most fun to drive. Even though it is marketed to younger people, I think a lot middle-aged and older people would really enjoy this car.

This is a FUN car! Consumer Reports indicated that it has too much road noise. Mine is quiet. I think, I'm actually getting better gas mileage than its stated 30 city / 38 highway. It has plenty of interior room. I just wish it had came with a roof rack for carying longer items like ladders or plywood. I think anyone would enjoy this vehicle. It looks like a vehicle out of the future.

There's no denying it. This thing is cool. There is so much you can do to it. I put on Momo rims, a new steering wheel, a different shifter, improved seats, everything Momo, and it looks SWEET. This makes an awesome dub car. Plus, I put a few goodies under the hood, so now it has about 224 hp. I'm not trading this baby for anything

I drive over 40,000 miles a year and was looking for something with good gas mileage. I bought the xB for the cargo space. With the back seats folded down, it can carry a lot of cargo. I have been averageing 30 mpg or better in a mix of highway and city driving. The car has a little pep as long as you smash the pedal to the floor. Overall it's been a good cheap form of transportaion.

It has an excellent price for such a quality built product. I love the BOX look. It is great to buy a statement car for working man's money. I changed the speakers to improve the sound and added Dynamat to reduce the noise. I replaced the exhaust resonator with something quieter. I love the ride now.

This is my first new car. I did not like it until I drove it, but then I knew right away that it was the car that I had to have. Unless you plan on drag racing, the engine gets the job done. The interior design is brilliant. The head room is amazing and the leg room in the front and rear is more than most SUVs. The rear seats fold flat to make room for cargo. The sound system is fantastic with the iPod aux hook up. The automatic was sluggish so I went with the manual. I get between 33-37 mpg depending on how much highway driving is done on each tank, much better than EPA estimates. For the price and standard features, this car is a steal.

This car replaced my beloved '95 Honda Accord Wagon which was wrecked, so I tend to compare it with the Accord. The xB excells in ease of entry/exit, price, fuel economy, head and legroom, cargo space when the rear seat isn't in use, 360 degree visibility, and ease of parking. On the down side, its engine performance is barely adequate, its ride quality is a little rough, it doesn't have much seat comfort, has a high noise level, and its handling in cross winds are tolerable but don't compare favorably with the Honda. In general, I like the Scion for local driving but miss the Accord for trips over 50 miles and cargo space with four people on board.

I just bought my Scion xB because I wanted better gas mileage than my 14 mpg SUV. I love the interior space and couldn't bear to buy a compact car. The exterior and interior design is great, and the xB is suprisingly quick from a stop. Second and third gear are a bit sluggish, but at cruising speed it will keep up with anything on the freeway. Its ride is very smooth and quiet. The A/C works great on mine, and I am in 115 degree heat in Palm Springs in the summer. The interior could use a few small tweaks, but is overall satisfactory. The low price makes the xB a fantastic value, and mine is getting around 32 mpg on 2/3 freeway and 1/3 city driving. I hope more accessories come out soon!

My Scion xB handles well and is not affected by the wind, which is surprising in a car shaped like a box. I am getting 32 mpg city/highway combined. It is easy to drive and its seats are very comfortable and back supportive. My son's are all 6 feet tall or taller and they can sit in the back seat with ample leg room. This car is fun to drive. I have the Special Edition which is Kermit green so I get lots of looks, double takes, and waves from other xB drivers. I also get a lot of "what kind of car is that anyway?" It has plenty of cargo room, we hauled two weeks' worth of supplies, two adults, and a dog to the cottage we rent every summer. It is a decent car for well under $20,000.

It's a nice smooth ride, a nice spacious interior, and what more could you get out of "the box" other than the features that come standard?! The sound is nice, I can use my iPod without having to buy extra connectors, and there's so much room in there I don't know how to use it! My next thing will be taking a road trip with it.

This is my second new car purchase in over six years. The xB is easy and nice to drive, no thrills, but enjoyable. I do have complaints with the A/C unit though. It does not put out enough cool air in the hot Arizona summers. Also, I can feel the bumps on the road, but I can deal with that given the value price. Would buy the same model again if I had to buy over? Absolutely, there is nothing else on market with equal value in terms of pricing, size, and quality. I average about 27 miles per gallon (but A/C was on all the time). I don't care for the color choices or accessories. It needs a center arm rest.

I have owned Toyotas before and this one does not dissappoint. The ride quality is good and my gas mileage has ranged from 34 to 41 mpg (road trip). So far I have found no problems with build quality and the engine has a sort of "sewing machine motor" quality of liking to spin freely but being entirely smooth with no rough or flat spots.

This is my first Toyota vehicle and I just LOVE it. It's got so much style inside and outside. Even the base model that I have, still has lots of little extras including the iPod auxilary port, Pioneer radio/CD player which is sattellite radio compatible. It's a 4-cylinder car, so the initial pickup is not really fast. However, once the Scion xB gets going, it maintains a real nice even speed - none of that pulling back that other 4-cylinder cars seem to have. Also, the car maintains a nice even drive/speed even going up hills - doesn't seem to increase RPM's like my old 6-cylinder. It's just a great value for the money!

From day one, I enjoyed owning this car. I got the Special Edition RS 3.0 in Envy Green and it turns heads. With the front and rear sway bars and cold air intake package installed, its performance seems to have increased and it handles very nicely. Everyone that rides in the rear seat remarks on how roomy it is. With the rear seats down it swallowed a 5,500 watt generator in the box with room to spare. At 9,500 miles, nothing has broken yet, and I do not expect any failures. So far 31.8 mpg I am getting on average and 34 on a 1,600 mile trip at highway speeds with the a/c on.

I've owned a lot of different types of cars through the years from fancy German sport sedans to American classics. The xB is one vehicle in which the sum is greater than the parts. No it's not as powerful as some or as posh as other cars but it is fun, fun, fun. Plus other xB owners waive at each other on the road. [Can't say the same for BMW owners.] My dogs like to travel in it, I can haul loads of stuff, the standard stereo is great and I can't help but smile every time I see it. Anyone who drives one will become a believer. Only cons: miss a cruise control and outside temperature display. [Hey, my last 5 vehicles had it.] And the cloth seats hold dog hair a little too well.

I bought my xB automatic today. After looking at the Honda CR-V, the Chrysler PT Cruiser, and the Toyota Matrix, I decided upon the xB. It is much cheaper than the CR-V, yet has more standard features than any others in the wagon/hatchback class. It has just as much room as many SUVs, but gets great gas mileage and is fun to drive. It feels like a whole other world inside the cabin. It's size is quite deceiving from the outside. It's high roof gives the feel of even more room.

I recently purchased a new 2006 Scion xB. I love the style, way it handles, its standard features, and all the possibilities there are to customize it. I bought mine with only the standard features. I found that a lot of the addons through Scion were costly. I purchased things like floor mats, a cargo net, and arm rest for half the price on-line. It came standard with a 6 speaker pioneer stereo with CD and an auxilary jack for my MP3 player. It has remote keyless entry and it gets great gas mileage. This summer its been great to take to the beach. I just put the back seats down and through the cooler, chairs, umbrella, boogy boards all in the back and off to the beach I went.

I have only had my xB for three months or so, but I love the way it handles the curves and has great maneuvering ability, and is compact for easy parking. I am averaging about 30 mpg. I'm not so excited about merging into traffic though, this vehicle has absolutely no get up and go. I usually feel hesitation just after punching the accelerator. Its head room and leg room are great, but its ride is bumpy. Our Honda Element has a smoother ride. The lack of cruise control is a bummer, it should be standard. The xB has lots of great options to choose from. I would consider another one down the road if it had more power.

I have had my xB for a year now with 12,000 miles on it, so this review has substance. So far the car has been flawless as far as reliability and nothing breaking even with a 5 and 16 year olds jumping all over the back. Here are some of the highlights of this car: 1) MPG of course averaging 33 combine daily commuting and weekend driving. 2) commanding view with comfortable seating. Can see traffic ahead. 3) room for 4 teenagers that needs to be driven everywhere. 4) Agile (sporty) handling. For the price there is no complaint if you are looking for a commuter car and trips to the local grocery and malls this is all you need. I wish I could take it on a cross country trip with my family.

While the Scion xB isn't much to look at, it's a good ride. It's smooth and comfortable, but I wish people wouldn't look at me all funny while I'm driving around town...

My xB handles amazingly well, with Scion's optional suspension additions. I added chrome wheels and a leather interior with heated seats. This is one marvelous, albeit underpowered. It would benefit from a turbocharger. My only complaint, and one the dealer is trying to help me with, is the terribly uncomfortable driver's seat. If I can't get this corrected through Scion I will move to an aftermarket seat, such as recaro or Corbeau. I might even modify it with stock power seats from another manufacturer. I am averaging 33 mpg and am barely broken in. All in all the xB is a great value. My extended warranty runs through 2013.

We wanted to buy a new vehicle and were looking to buy a pickup truck but found out the prices were to high. Plus the gas mileage for pickups is so bad. I came across the Scion XB while researching for cars and saw that its gas mileage is very good. We went to test drive it twice and decided to get it because it was boxy, head turning, and affordable. Who cares if I am not under 25 and don't fit the driver profile.

We used to make fun of these cars, now we love 'em! It's fun to drive and is REALLY spacious on the inside. Its gas mileage is great. Plus its made by Toyota, you can't go wrong there. It has a great price for a new car. It is better suited for shorter distance driving. It is marketed toward the 20-something crowd, but it is actually bought by families and older adults. Don't let the marketing influence your decision, just test drive one.

I frowned at first sight of an xB. My salesmen immediately offered a test drive. The rest is history. I had driven all the rest (Yaris, Fit, Civic, Corrola, etc.). The xB was simply the best! I love the ease of entry/exit, high seating position, excellent visibility, ample leg/headroom (I’m 6’5” with a 37” inseam), firm ride, great handling, better than expected gas mileage (approximately 34 combined city/highway) and sound options. This cas has turned my 45 mile commute (one-way) from a chore to a pleasure. As others have mentioned, the car’s appearance elicits a lot of comment and opinion. People either love it or hate it. As a former skeptic myself, I simply say “drive one."

At first I thought the 11 gallon gas tank would be too small, but I still get over 300 miles per tank. It's comfortable and I love driving it. When the salesman suggested it to me I said I would never buy that car, then I drove it, I am very glad I did.

I am actually a salesman as well, and after shopping around the market looking at anything from SUVs to the Scion xB I decided to invest in a Scion. I do a lot of driving in the winter and the idea that the car comes with traction assist, brake force distribution, and VSC while still being at 15 and change was really appealing. I snowboard a lot and I needed room as well as good gas mileage, not to mention with the money I saved buying this car I bought 18" wheels to go with it made by Enkei. I know that most people look at this car and think that it's ugly, and honestly, so did I when my friend bought one, but after owning it for a while I love it. I also paid sticker like anyone else would.

My Scion xB is silver with a stick. It is a very slow car, but it's so sweet. I can't stand myself. It's love. I have the blue light in the footwells, and the armrest which is essential. This is a very dark car on the inside, so get a light. I'm getting 32 MPG combined. Again, this car is extremely slow. The back phony lowrider tail section is falling off because I cracked it on a curb. You need to be careful. Buy this car immediately. It doesn't get any better. The dealer will have nothing to do with haggling. Get them on the interest rate of the loan you will pay. They will go into the other room, their face will turn red, and they'll make the deal - sort of. Good luck, and happy driving.

My Scion xB Auto has so far impressed me. I have a wife and 2 3/4 year olds so it fits our family perfectly. Our first road trip of 700 miles went well. The xB drove beautifully. It does lack the grunt to climb big hills and the door panels and other interior parts scuff very easily. I can live with that because the ride is nice and tight and the little box gets great MPG. The cernter mount speedo/tach is nice. I thought it would be difficult to get used to since it first appears a little quirky. This was not the case. It's very easy to read and keep your eyes on the road. The seats are comfortable for the longer legs of a journey and the engine is smooth/quiet at around 70-72 MPH.

I am 6'8 and the xB is one of the few inexpensive dependable cars I could consider. So far so good. I get about 33 mpg in all driving. My problem is that the driver's seat is very uncomfortable. I would benefit from having a power seat that allows more adjustment. I would not recommend this car anyone over 6'4". The available arm rest is cheap and does no good for me. Otherwise the xB is a pleasure to drive and surprisingly quiet when driven in town.

This toaster is everything I wanted. It has great fuel economy, a low operating cost, a simple design, Toyota reliability, styling, features... I could go on and on. I have 2 complaints (both of which I knew going into the purchase). 1) The box has ZERO aerodynamics, therefore, it is impossible to keep all of the bugs off of your windsheild. 2) The gearing in the transmission is very short. Toyota did this to get the most acceleration out of this ice cream truck. At 80 mph in 5th gear (manual transmission), you are at 4,000 rpm's. Other than that... It's great. It looks so small on the outside, yet you have so much room on the inside. Plus the aftermarket tuning comminity has taken this car and ran with it.

I've had the xB for 3 months now and I've loved every moment of it. When I first saw the xB on TV I wanted one and the car is everything I expected and more. It turns heads, has an impressive sound system, has great fuel economy, and tons of room for people or stuff. My only complaint is the turning radius is rather large for a small car oh and the small minded people who insist on telling me that it is ugly because it dosen't look like everything else on the road. I strongly reccomend this car to anyone.

My wife and I each have an xB. They are roomy on the inside, very dependable, and quite fun to drive.even though Scion aims for the younger generation. I am 56 and the wife is over 50. These little "toasters" are much easier for the older drivers and passengers to enter and exit. Parking is a snap. It's as easy as a golf cart. although it does not have a "luxury ride" the "Toaster" will do what retiree's need without breaking the bank (even on a fixed income). The fit and finish are superior to nearly any car on the market, reguardless of price. The xB is an excellent value both in purchase price and cost of operation. I highly recommend at least driving the xB before purchasing any similar vehicle.

Our experience with the xB has been pretty good to date. We average about 35 mpg with mostly highway driving. The ride on the interstate is a bit bumpy and noisy. Our Camry rides better on the interstate and is better for longer road trips. This vehicle is fine for everyday driving or for commuting to work. It fits well for tall drivers - my husband is over 6' and it fits him very comfortably. I wouldn't purchase this unless it has cruise control installed.

First, I have read several of the reviews complaining about fuel economy. This car is _not_ a Corvette. If you drive it like some kind of sports car with jackrabit starts and irregular and harsh acceleration you will get trashy fuel mileage. I am enjoying a 37 MPG car with my daily 15 mile trips to and from work. I fully expect that number to reach 40 MPG on the highway. For the cost of the car, expected lifespan, and the potential good mileage this is a strong alternative to the Prius Hybrid. IMHO, I think the Scion xB may prove to be more economal than the Prius given the complexity and exotic parts required for the Prius.

The Scion xB is a great car. I bought it to replaced my leased '03 Highlander V6 which was also a great vehicle. This box gets great gas mileage and is fun to drive. Even though it is low on power, the 5-speed makes it more interesting to drive. I will add an intake, exhaust, and headers to spice things up. A turbo might come later. Its space is great, audio is great, and it is very inexpensive to maintain. One thing to note is the A/C system seems a little weak for this small car.

This car turns heads. I think it was the looks I first noticed. Before I even considered a car in this class, I liked the look of it. I like distinctive cars. Then I drove it, and was sold. This thing is huge amounts of fun to drive. In fact, it's huge in a few ways. Huge fun to drive. Huge room inside. Huge potential for making it *mine*. Huge attitude! And small in others. Small small fuel consumption. Small price tag. Small on the road. Economical? Fun? Cheap? Eye catching? There is very little to not like.

I purchased our Scion as a Christmas present for my 44 year old husband. I drive an 8 cylinder pickup. Needless to say, with the high gas prices, I have pretty well taken over the Scion for trips to town (45 miles away, one way). I also enjoy putting my groceries inside the spacious rear end rather than leaving them in the bed of the truck. Laying the back seat down give a lot of room. With the back seat up, there is still room behind the back seat for a trip to the grocery store. With the special cover, you can hide your purchases from prying eyes behind the back seat. They also have a nice cover for when the seat is down that keeps the back of the seat from being damaged by cargo.

My fuel economy is averaging 32 mpg city and highway for an automatic. It is easy to fold the seats down and haul items. this is the first car I haven't had to take back to the dealer for "corrections." I needed to get something good on gas ($3 per/gallon was on the horizon). My Hemi powered Dodge 2500, while needed, is thirsty. Not to mention a bear to drive around town. I looked at several gas misers, but wanted something with more usefulness then past festivas. After test drives, and reading I bought an xB. It was an easy purchase, $20 filled the tank (although, sadly more is needed now!) and it's handles city driving like a roller skate!

These Scions are great for company vehicles. The come with standard vehicle skid control, antilock brakes, and roomy interiors. We use them for our employees, they are useful and great on gas. They are basically a rolling billboard we will plaster our company name and logo, with a wrap-around mesh type ads that will cover the side and rear windows (not the front of course). I traded in my luxury van for better mileage. At first I thought I had made a mistake because I have had vans for 14 years so this was a big jump backwards at first thought. I've driven it for a few days now and I actually like it, the mileage is great and it's fun to drive. Thought this was only for the younger crowd but everyone I see driving it is my age (almost 40) or older. The front and rear seat confort is also great even for a guy my size - I'm not short and skinny. The engine has a fair amount of pull for only being 1.5 litres and I haven't had a problem passing on the freeway using the solid feeling manual transmission. I also like how it looks like nothing else on the road today. I also own an '01 Mustang GT and an '05 Nissan Armada - great vehicles but they both consume copious amounts of gas.

To review this car, you must put things in perspective. This is a $15,000 car and not a luxury car. My scores are based upon this. It is pretty roomy and comfortable, gets good mileage if driven sensibly, has stylish looks, Toyota quality (hopefully), and sufficient performance, etc... Are you going to blow anybody off of the road? No, but don't buy this car for that reason. This is reliable transportation with pretty good gas mileage, that is funky, stylish, and fun to drive. That said, I think that this is one of the best auto buys out there. If the auto makers get serious about small cars and mileage in this country, then there might be some competition, but until then; Scion seems to top the list.

One test drive is all it took! I was amazed at how much room there was on the inside of the car, I'm a DJ so I need space to haul my equipment around. Another thing that impressed me was the low end pick up of the 1.5L. I have a 5-speed manual and have no problem leaving people at stoplights to make quick lane changes when needed. I had thought that they were the ugliest thing on the road but when I looked inside I couldn't believe how BIG it was. Then I took it for a test drive and bought it immediately. After three months I still smile when I see it in the driveway (it's sooo cute). The gas mileage isn't quite what they claim but I usually get about 27 mpg, only got 30 once. I love that when two xBs pass each other on the road the owners always wave or give the thumbs up, it's like we are very special vehicle owners.

One of my sons is 6'7" and can sit in the back seat without his knees touching the front seat even when it's completely extended. Nobodys' head touches the ceiling. It's amazing how much stuff I can haul from the building supply stores. In town I'm getting a little over 29 mpg. On my last trip, one tankful that was soley freeway driving got 36.9 mpg. The ride is a little stiff but it corners like a sportscar. I love this car!

I used to laugh at them until I drove one. I bought one about three weeks later and use it as a commuter car. My older kids fight for it on the weekend, as all thier friends, and stuff, fit comfortably. One of my favorite features, which I didn't quite appreciate at first, is the 360 degree visibility out the windows. No matter where you turn, you can see. Bonus, I'm a big guy and fit comfortably. With the front seat all the way back and leaned, I can sit in the back seat with plenty of leg room. You can't believe how much room is in there until you get inside. I can't find anything to gripe about.

I have had my xB for 6 months and 7,000 miles and thought an extended use report may be useful to some. Still love my xB. I have taken a couple of road trips and it has done great. I did customize my car with factory upgrades and it still turns heads going down the road. People of all ages give me compliments. Its gas mileage is good, I average about 32 mpg in town and 36 on the interstate. This car can carry a good amount of luggage (fold down rear seats) for trips involving 2-3 people. It has lots of head and leg room. The only problem I have involves build quality. My rear seat makes a noise in the upright position. Also, I get an annoying vibration from the front seat belts where they adjust up and down.

This vehicle is by far the best I've ever owned. It's practical for stowing just about everything (including surprising roominess for back-seat passengers), and yet is really fun to drive (and park!). My fuel economy has averaged between 32 and 35 mpg, depending on my driving patterns.

I have a toddler who is tall and am 5'8" myself and it gives us plenty of space along with great gas milage. I would recommend this car to anyone. Definetly consider this car, it's very awesome!

It took three months but I finally just received my 5 speed xB Release Series 3.0 in Envy Green, (2,200 only will be made) and it is a great vehicle. This brings back memories of My 1978 Renault Le Car and is even boxier than my aging 1995 Suzuki Sidekick. I am a big fan of small cars that are well designed and Scion has it all figured out. As a "mid-life crisis" vehicle, which this clearly is for me, the xB has many practical design features like 3 seatbelts in the back seat (unlike the Honda Element), exceptional headroom and legroom, extreme affordability, peppy ride, excellent gas mileage, and a much higher "heading turning coefficient" (HTC) than cars 3 times its price.

I am slightly disappointed in my xB's gas milage, the best milage I've have gotten is 31 mpg highway, 26 mpg city. I currently have 11,000 miles on the car. The paint is chipping off and I can't seem to get a touch up bottle from the dealer.

We purchased this car as a B-day gift for my Wife's brother, and kept it garaged for 2 months. Before we gave it to him, but after only driving it 30 + miles my Wife was ready to get herself one. Which has not happened since we bought her 1979 Rabbit Diesel, but will happen as soon as the Diesel dies, its cylinder head is finally going after + 200,000 miles.

I really love my xB. I bought it as a run around town grocery getter for my wife but it has become our favorite car! If you have read the reviews about noise and comfort being a problem don't believe them. I regularly cruse at 80 MPH on the highway in total comfort! Just for the record, I'm 6'3" and 240 lbs. I drive 35 miles one way to work on I-95 in South Florida. Get cruse control if you drive long distances. I also like the ride better with the 15" rims and tires over the 17" or 18". I have the 7 spoke alloys from Enkei. They look awesome!

I was pushed into a full sized SUV that was stopped, the bus was doing 45 mph. I was so impressed by the way it held up. I bought anouther one . I just wished they came in a V6.

This is the best car I ever had. People stare at the strange box, but it runs great and has lots of space. I have a bad back but the seats offer good support and I don't get out stiff from riding. I have to be careful about the speed. It has lots of get-up-and-go power and easily cruises at 80 to 90 mph. The only thing missing is a cruise control option. The 4 cyl 16 valve dual OHC engine was borrowed from the Toyota Echo and is smooth and quiet. The 160 watt Pioneer stereo is a joy to play.

I just purchased the 2006 xB today and I love it! I am a large man at 6'4" and 285 lbs and this car is unbelievable. If you are on the bigger side and would like to have a car with great gas mileage, but can never fit in one, this is YOUR CAR! Even in full-size SUV's I sometimes have difficulty with headroom. The xB gives me as much leg room as my Suburban (just sold) and 6 inches of clearance above my head. It drives and handles like a small sports car. The stereo is fantastic, and I got 31.8 MPG on my first tank of gas! Frankly, I would drive it all night if I didn't have things to do tomorrow. Please don't buy before driving this vehicle. The quality and features are astounding.

Consumer Reports called the Scion xB 'The Box that Rocks' and it's true! Not only is it Toyota's Energizer Bunny, it's a comfortable, roomy vehicle with inimitable style and ergonomically correct seating that MORE than gets you where you want to go. At first, I felt annoyed when I saw another one on the road. These cars look so unique that you proudly buzz along, deluding yourself into believing that yours is the only one. Now, when I see another 'Box', I feel a sense of tribal attitude and belonging. Options for the xB are awesome, and only serve to enhance the basic design. My Box is named Angus, after Angus Young. He rocks the road! It sounds crazy, but I talk to him.

I got the xB release model. It is really a head turner as well a a car that is fun to drive. I am a high mileage commute driver and for the money this is a hard car to beat. The gas mileage I have received has exceeded the Scion sticker numbers on every tank of gas I have pumped. With the five speed manual transmission, the power seems to be more than enough to get me to and from work. With my previous USA car, I had to constantly downshift to get over the hills or merge into freeway traffic. With my xB I just leave it in fifth gear and climb hills or enter freeways easily. I love my xB and would recommend that all commuters give it a good look. Great car for the money.

I have almost 5,000 miles on my 2006 XB. So far the windshield wiper rubber part came off of the metal causing theit to stick up and scrape the paint off my car. It is now rusting. The windshield is so straight that rocks chip it VERY easy (4 times already)! I need a new one. The radio sounds horrible and when I turn volume up. When I turn sharp corners the radio station changes. I've lived at beach for years never had problems with door parts getting bent due to the wind!! A "little" peice of metal is bent and I have to slam door shut to close it and now the window only rolls down 3 inches! Also the interior lighting is bad. Its seats are VERY uncomfortable. And it drives like a go cart. If you are used to small cars this wont be a problem for you.

My Scion xB is black. It is so fun to drive. It evokes very curious responses from people. My wife and kids thought I was joking when I bought it. My teenage son vowed to never drive it and thought it was very uncool. It has excellent brakes. I made a panic stop yesterday from about 30 mph. and the ABS stopped it hard and straight. Without it, the wheels would have locked up and I would have slid into the car ahead of me. The Scion is quick enough from 0-30, but its acceleration is almost nil at speeds beyond 40 mph. In other words, passing on the freeway happens slowly. On a drive from San Francisco to LA recently, down I-5 and it hummed along at 75 mph no problem.

I have always thought the Scion xB was very unique in several ways. First being that the car looks like no other, and that it got really good gas milage. Now that I am a owner of a 2006 xB I really love its ride. I notice several people driving around me looking at the car probably thinking that it has no "ZIP". Oh how they are so wrong. This car has a great "zip" in the beginning. As far as getting the car up beyond the 85 mph its pretty hard, but that is against the law in many states. :( But anyway this car is great. I am 6'1 and I have tons of rooms for me to relax in the front or back seats.

I traded in a 2004 Jeep Liberty (avg. 17 mpg) for a 2006 Scion xB for better gas mileage. So far, we are averaging 28 to 30 mpg for around town driving, and it costs so little to fill the tank. The only downside to this car is you feel every bump in the road, I would not recommend it if you have back problems. Also, our insurance company rates it as an SUV, not as a wagon. So if you buy one check out how much it will cost to insure it. We are happy with this car and would buy another one!

The Scion xB has incredible interior design and is super easy to park anywhere because of its small size. I have had it since October and it has not gotten any dents from people slamming their doors into the car. The only bad thing about the it is that it is so close to the ground it leaves you very little clearance and most of the front part and the rear bumper are made of plastic. Overall though, I am VERY happy with the xB, it was my first new car purchase and it has been an excellent buy.

My teenager told me if I bought this car she would NEVER drive it! When I first saw it, I laughed and said "How ugly. Show me something else!" But now we both absolutely love it. My 6'2" boys get in the back seat and have PLENTY of headroom AND knee room! Even with the seats all the way back. It has no power, but with teenagers, I would prefer a car without a lot of power. Hey, it gets me where I want to go. I don't feel claustrophobic. In fact, I love the seat position - not too high, not too low, forward enough so I feel in control and can see cars coming even when I am down a blind alley. I was disappointed in the mileage though. Even with my careful driving, I only get 30 mpg instead 34.

This "car" is phenominal! I can't believe how much fun it is! I traded in a Hemi Ram due to gas prices and praticality's sake. I originally wanted a Mazda3 Hatchback, but I was too upside down on the Ram to keep my payments reasonable. I always thought the xB was cool in a weird way, but figured it was slow and poorly made. How wrong I was! I haven't had this much fun since my 1990 Mazda Rx-7. What the the xB lacks in horses, it more than makes up for with zippy handling and uniqueness. Even my big truck driving friends, who laughed and threatened to disown me at first, gave it the respect it deserves after they drove it. I'm 6'2, and I can even sit in the BACK seat with plenty of leg room. Buy one!

I find the Scion xB to be quite roomy. I was going to buy an xA untill I drove the xB and I wanted the extra room that the xB provides. It handles great, it's fun to drive and it begs to be customized. I spent over three months researching and agonizing on what car to buy before I came to this decision and I feel you can't go wrong with an xB. It has everything I could ask for: reasonable fuel economy, seating for five, and cargo space when I need it.

I had a 2005 xB - it was a very fun car to drive. My only complaint was with the small engine. It accelerated fine - but revs at 4,000 - 5,000 RPM when doing 75 - 80 mph on the freeway. My wife and two children were in this car when they were hit from behind at about 50 mph on the freeway. The xB spun them sevral times without tipping and no major injuries. It surprisingly held up very well considering. I would buy another one, but I am going to wait till a larger engine is offered - the 2.2 would be nice.

My Release 2.0 Scion xB is the 3rd xB I've purchased. My xB black box was one of the first California xB's released in June 2003 (people stopped me on the road to look at it). Then I purchased a Hot Lava release 1.0 for my wife. Then I got the yellow one for an upgrade. All total of about 70,000 trouble free xB miles! No other car does what the xB does. It provides lots of space, gets great gas mileage, is extrenely reliable and fun to drive. It's even more fun to see the looks on the face of SUV owners see me fill up with 9.8 gallons.

Many of you probably think of the xB what I used to think before I got to really know one. Many of the same thoughts of claustrophobia and public humiliation crossed my mind when I first saw it. Then one of my friend's bought one, truly a day to remember. This thing had so much headroom, legroom, and cargo room in such a small package it was astounding (and a bit dumbfounding initially). I have always like Toyotas for their reputation of build quality and reliability, this box is no exception. It is surpisingly quick (mostly due to its low curb weight) in the 5-speed variant and a joy to drive (mine isn't stock though). It has lots of handy features and plenty of aftermarket support.

I bought "the box" about two months ago and I only had to wait about two weeks for my xB. From what I have been reading that is realy fast. I never thought that I would own an import car. I was a Chevy man but I saw that the xB and for the price and what I was spending in gas for my Camaro I am now spending little over half the amout that I was. As an added bonus, my insurance dropped as well. I am about 6'1 and there is enouff leg room for me with the front seat all the way back.

The Scion xB easily fits a normal size person (6'4"). It has sports car driving, but is so easy to get in and out of. It comes with a great standard feature set! Mature drivers quickly realize that driving can be fun again. Of the five xB's in my really small town, non are driven by kids! It is inexpensive, but it is not cheap. It has shades of the VW Bug from 40 years ago. Make sure to get the arm rest and cruse control.

The 2006 Scion xB is a wonderful auto. I came from a much larger one and would not trade back. Every aspect of this car is better than I expected. I love the positioning of the instrument panel and think it would be a good trend for other auto makers. Its gas mileage is fabulous. It is very roomy with lots of headroom, great cargo space, and seats that go down in a flash without any struggle. The price is more than fair!

The automatic Scion xB is underpowered but the 5-speed has enough power to merge into busy traffic. Its gas mileage is amazing [40+ mpg] with the 5-speed if you keep it at 55 mph and drive with a very light foot without the air conditioning on during a trip. If you want the 5-speed you may have to order it since it seems few dealers have them on the lot and it may take 6-8 weeks.

Go buy the Scion xB. You know you want one. Here's the deal: this is THE best built, no frills (unless you upgrade) big car hiding in a samll car's body. It's tiny on the outside, but so spacious inside. True, you're not going to win any drag races in this thing, but it will get you to work, the grocery store, out on the town etc.. for the next 10 years! It drives great and is soooo good on the gas. Plus it looks cool. Go buy one. I'm going to get another for the wifey.

I saw these cars before, but I thought it was junk - a big box usually means junky, burning of fuel, bad performance and expensive. I never wanted to know about it. A week ago I went to a Toyota dealer looking for a small wagon. They showed me a Scion xA. I got home and did some research about Scion and found the xB. Man, that junky box was exactly my dreamed car! A wagon for moving my stuff, small outside, roomy inside, fantastic MPG, with an incredible low price. It is very easy to rule out all other vehicles: SUVs and vans are too big and too gas hungry; sedans cannot take large stuff; other small wagons (including xA) are too small inside. Nothing else is this perfect.

I love my Scion xB! I was hesitant at first, but this car grew on me really fast. It has great interior room and cargo space(60/40 split). It has awesome fuel economy and a great stock Pioneer 160 watt sound system. I opted for the iPod and Sirius radio and it makes my long driving even more enjoyable! I drive this car daily and it's a looker. I replaced the stock 15" hubcaps / tires with some 17" 7-spoke gunmetal rims. My xB looks and handles even better! Not to mention my 17" rims match the cool looking Thunder Clound Metallic Scion offers! I have fun driving this car everyday. All in all, it is a great and fun car!

It is remarkable that a company can continue to build quality machines at three different price levels. I've owned an Avalon, Camry and now Scion xB. While the xB's engine noise is rather loud at times, it gives the driver a great deal of confidence in handling and relability. For the Eastern winters I purchased four Bridgestone Blizzack snow tires; the traction and snow/wet handling are excellent. My gas mileage is climbing upward as I break the car in I expect the gas savings to be a big plus. One gets the sense that this car is well built for the price. Above all, it will be cost effective and have great utility. I expect the Scion lines to grow rapidly.

I've been driving the xB for a month now and continue to be very pleased with the purchase. As advertised, it's great for urban driving conditions, schlepping people and gear, and climbing hills--all while sipping fuel. It drives tight on dry roads...a little less so on snow/ice but still very acceptable for a non-4X4. Acceleration and cruising speeds are more than adequate for normal day-to-day sub/urban driving. Due to high revs over 75 mph, I would not recommend the xB to Montana drivers (they wouldn't give up their P/Us anyway).

Have 1,000 miles on my Scion xB now and I am still very happy. I took it fully loaded (4 adults, wedding gifts and clothes) into the mountains of Asheville, NC. It strained a little on the biggest hill but ran great. I still averaged almost 35 mpg! I had kayak racks installed and it did increase the noise some, but that was the same with my Explorer. I enjoy the sound system more each time I hear it and the 5-speed transmission is just plain fun though 1st gear is a quick shift thru to second. Everyone who has ridden in this car loved it, including me. (g)

I LOVE my Scion xB SUV. Yeah that's right my SUV. Small Ugly Vehicle. It is responsive, stylish, and fun to drive. Its fit and finish is quite good for a "CHEAP" car. It is a real hoot to drive. It is a wee bit sluggish on passing on the highway, but other than that its wonderful. It has pleanty of room and a interior layout. I like this little box a great deal and would not hesitate to tell others how good it is.

I know that Scion is marketed toward youngsters, but this "box" is too good to pass up. It has excellent fuel economy and handling, and beaucoup room, plus Toyota fit, finish, and reliability. It takes curves like a slot car. all for a price less than one would pay for a bone stock Civic or a loaded Kia. Yes, there are lots of options for the kids, but they are mainly useless gimicks and shiny trinkets. All you need (and more) comes standard: air comditioning, power everything, keyless entry, a 160 watt Pioneer stereo (so I can listen to Click and Clack at a volume that will bring down low flying Aircraft), stability and traction control. I am very very pleased with it, mine gets 34 mpg in mixed driving.

We're an active couple in our 50's and were looking for a spacious, gas conserving car that could also carry our kayaks and bikes. We love the Scion xB. We should have the Kayak rack put on this week. Our bikes just do make it inside if their front wheels are removed. We are considering mounting them on-top. It's responsive, and to me has plenty of power. I ordered through the dealership and it took 70 days for my car to arrive. I got the 2006 polar-white, 5-speed with armrest and cruise-control. That was it. The total cost was just under $16,000. The reviews on this site are right on the money to me when describing this car. I read them before I test drove and purchased. I only have 200 miles on mine so far but I am extremely happy.

I've been driving my 2006 Scion xB for two months now, having previously owned a Honda Odyssey. My xB is so much fun to drive, and handles corners so well, that I'm having a blast. My husband was hesitant, but is now thinking of getting one for himself! My college-aged daughters are begging to drive it during their school break. This car is really deceptive, being unbelievably roomy inside, handling the road well, and generally just zipping through traffic and into the smallest spaces. I added the rear bumper guard, cruise control, and an armrest, and really felt that everything else I would ever need was included. The visiblity is wonderful, I get from 29-36 mpg, and, even being fully loaded, insurance is cheap!

It comes standard with power evarything and a amazing Pioneer radio. It also comes with a port to plug your MP3 player right in so you can listen to all your music downloads. i bought my 2006 Scion xB 3.5 weeks ago and already have 3,100 miles on it. It is a lot of fun to drive. It looks small outside, but it is huge on the inside. I have already bought a lot of aftermarket accessories for it - which only make it even better. Mine is an automatic and it gets between 29 to 34 miles per gallon. This is an awesome commuter car and it likes to cruise at 75 mph, which is only at 3,000 rpm. The other day I burned a quarter tank and went to gas station to get gas and laughed when it took 3 gals to get back on full. I haven't had any problems in the wind at all - but the windshield does attract a lot of bugs. I love my box and it is worth the $16,719 that I paid "out the door"!

The Scion xB has so much room in the inside with comfort in mind. In many vehicles in this price range, power windows, power locks, etc. are an option. They are all standard in the xB. Although the engine is only a small 1.5L, it does have the get up and go that I need. It does have a little trouble getting up steep hills but this is only a small thing considering all the things that can be done with this vehicle. The drive feels like you are riding on rails. I get a lot of compliments from people who like this car, but as you will find either you like this car or you don't. Many people criticize it for being too boxy, but for me that is the allure of it.

Having owned many new cars over the years, this is the first that has not had to go back to the dealership for a problem or adjustment. I'm tall and there's plenty of "people room", front and rear. The visiblity is great and the cornering is hard to believe - it doesn't feel the least bit tippy. Could use a bit more merging power for the highway but once going, it keeps up with high speed traffic very well. I'm glad I read the reviews prior to purchase as it persuaded me to try both the stick and automatic. The automatic is significantly quieter at higher speeds and I'm glad I went with it. I went with the center armrest and ipod stereo upgrades.

Not only does this car have charming, if whimsical, looks, it's also a tremendous gas saver. We traded in our Ford Explorer for it and couldn't be happier. While the initial attraction to the car was it's great gas mileage and the excellent reports, we love its looks. We hear it's a "toaster," but I think it looks like a little British Taxi Cab. We have the black standard 2006 with very few options (just the mats, cargo mat, IPod plug). So far (we've had it since 30 September 2005), it's been dreamy. It was four-days-old and parked -- when someone first dinged it (parallel parking) and eight days old when a pebble kicked up and dinged the windshield. We're looking into a deflector.

Why love..because I've been a van driver for 12 years and am now thrilled to be in such a groovy little car. My husband loved the price, the great gas mileage and the fact that his 6'2'' frame fit comfortably in the car. We had previously test drove even some SUV's which did not compare as far as interior comfort and size. The styling is smart and I love the appearance. The large interior feel of the car doesn't seem to match what appears to be a tiny car from the outside.

This car is awesome. I need a roomy, comfortable car for my business and was originally planning to buy a Lincoln to replace my aging Ford van. I test drove the Scion xB on a whim, and completely fell in love with it. I found that it has more head and leg room, front and back, than the Lincoln I took for a spin, and it's a lot more fun to drive. My customers love riding in it...no matter how big they are, they have plenty of room to stretch out. I don't get very good gas mileage because of the type of driving I have to do at work and the way I drive, and I'm in South Florida so my A/C is always on. I can only imagine how much more gas I'd be burning if I'd bought that Lincoln.

function, style and personality, all "boxed" up. Get the Manual, it's alot more fun to drive, and at only 108hp, the stick makes you think you have more. Currently 36 MPG and it's not broken in yet. Plenty of room for 4, but better yet, put the rear seats down and 2 big dogs each have their own snorkling window. Standard features are un-parallelled at this price point. Ok, at first I was a little skeptical to buy this car because it kinda looked like a toaster, but so many things grew on me after awhile when I saw the gas mileage, loads of interior room and endless acessories. This car is truly the real deal. On an 11.9 gallon tank this car can go on the highway about 325 miles roughly...at least that's what I calculated. I get so many compliments on this car. I just tell 'em you gotta' drive it to really believe it.

I Love This Car!

Let me say it again! I love this car. I paint and finish woodwork for a living 90 miles from home. I put on lots of miles! Everything that fit in the box of my F-150 fits in my new paintbox except for the 6 foot ladder. (I haven't tried yet) I now pay a lot less for gas. The day I picked it up i had bought 5 old chairs, the salesman laughed. I said I haul lots of junk all the time might as well start the first day, they all fit with room to spare. You have lots of people stare, strangers want to know what it is, if they can look in it. It is a conversation piece. The only negative I have about the car is that on gravel roads it lets in a lot of real fine dust into the car.

Best deal for the dollar!

Before purchasing my Scion xB I researched and test drove many automobiles (Saturn ION, Honda Civic, VW Beetle, etc.). I travel frequently with my job and was searching for a good looking, reliable car with great fuel economy. I must admit my Scion xB has exceeded all my expectations. Because Scion let me build my xB I got everything I wanted in a car for less than $17,500. Gas mileage: I currently get 29 mpg in town and 32 mpg on highway. Despite the fact the xB has a 1.5 litre engine it cruises comfortably at 75-85 mph. The interior room in this car is huge. Rear seats fold for extra storage space. Car has amazing head/leg room as well. I have friends over 6 feet tall who fit comfortably.

From the first time I saw this little boxy car, I knew I had to have one. I sold a 2000 Lexus ES 300 for my Scion XB and I don't regret it one bit!

Ohhh Yes!

I bought my Black Sand Pearl xB two months ago. I had researched it on the net for a long time and was impressed. On a whim I went and test drove it. That was it! It was so much fun to drive, I must have been grinning ear to ear. Bought it right then. Put on cold air induction, 6 CD stereo, security system, and a beautiful red & black leather steering wheel. Later put on 7-spoke alloy wheels. I love my car, I find myself just "going for a ride" it is so much fun. Great car! Cheap, well made, efficient easy on gas and my insurance payment dropped. Of course it is easy to park and people come across parking lots to look at it and talk to me. My two German Shepherds love it too.

After visting this site for months researching all of my options, I finally went with the Scion xB and I am totally sure I made the right decision. The Element was big, clunky and pricy. The Chevy HHR was silly looking and well as a Chevrolet. The only real contender was the Mazda3 wagon, and this beat it in catagories I was looking at. It has more interior room and drove much better. Plus it's cheaper. It sits high (er than my Saturn SC2) and feels incredibly safe. You honestly can not beat this car in value. It comes with, pretty much, everything you could want standard. One thing that some hold against this car is the 1.5 4-cylinder motor, but trust me it'll move on the on-ramps and at lights.

When I first viewed this car (Scion XB) it seemed to be designed for the 20 something crowd. It was aimed at the same demographic as the Honda Element. However,it seemed to me that there were many more 30, 40, 50, and 60 somethings driving the Elements that I saw. So I decided to test drive an Element and fell in love with it. It was a short romance, because then I decided to test drive a Scion xB. That was it. This car was $5,000 cheaper than a comparably equipped Element, got 10 miles per gallon better mileage, and was more fun to drive. I'm not in Toyota's planned demographic for an xB either. I'm a 71 year old retired college professor.

I get 35 mpg in my Scion xB! That's right. I love it. It is so much fun to drive and I get major looks around town. The kids love it too. The standard features are awsome and the satilite radio is cool. My dealer gave me Sirus free for 9 months and threw in a free cruise control!

I purchased a used 2004 Scion xB that I found on the Internet and drove it from CT to IN with no problem. I wanted to buy a new car, but this car had $2,000 in accessories and he sold it for $1,000 less than the blue book price. The previous owner tinted the back windows with a darker tint, and I was concerned about seeing other drivers. After almost 3 weeks, I am finally getting used to driving a manual, now it just comes natural. My hubbie calls it a popcorn popper, because it gets good gas mileage! I am totally pleased.

"Best buy for a lower budget."

If you are running a "tight budget", this is your vehicle. It gets great gas mileage ($20 dollars will fill up your tank and have you running for almost a week). It's incredibly spacious (whether for cargo purposes or traveling with a "good amount" of people, this is your mini U-haul). It has trendy looks, the interior design is comfortable and practical (speedometer, gas and other engine related devices are within "driving view", you do not lose focus on the road while glancing at you speed).

I love my new Scion xB. It's new, different, fast and tricked out. Try it and you're hooked. I've added about $7,000 in aftermarket and TRD parts to mine. It beats Hondas hands down.

We own 2004 Vovlo XC90 SUV as primary vehicle. Both vehicles have anti-lock brakes, roll-over control (VSC), and excellent, proven drivetrain/safety records (Toyota). Scion beats our Volvo SUV for; gas mileage (35 vs 21), comfort/room, standard features, visability, utility, and fun factor to drive. I can buy 3 of these for 1 Volvo SUV. Four older couples on a recent trip told me it reminds them of the VW bug when it first came out (a car ahead of it's time). I bought this car for business travel. (I'm in my 40s) My wife said she would rather drive the Scion than her $45,000 SUV. It's our family car of choice now. Thanks, Scion! Long live the Box!

Best small car for long trip I have driven. Lots of space inside and with the flat roof can put rack on, to carry kayaks and roof box. These do not interfer with handling of vehicle. Around town only gas up every other week. People like to see the car.
