Mighty 30 valve V10 + manual trans = perfect combo

The V10/manual trans combo wasn't listed in choices, mine is the Lariat FX4 crew cab 8' box. (The 5.4 is a good light duty truck engine, I wouldn't run one in a SD). I absolutely love my truck have had it for 4 years and the only thing I've had to do is ball joints and brakes, VERY reliable and capable. I bought it from a contractor and according to resale sites I could try to sell it for close to what I purchased it for, that makes me happy. The V10 and 6 speed manual are the only way to go in my opinion the truck will lope around all day in 6th gear even down to 25mph and still be able to pull mightily back to 60-65, where it runs around 1700 rpm's, very usable torque. I have had no problems pulling a 34' camper or trailer with 2 off-road jeeps on it, the manual trans really lets me use every rpm and the truck loves pulling right up to 5500 rpm before I grab another gear, surprisingly to me that 30 valve V10 really likes to spin. The truck gets good fuel mileage for what it is, I run 91 non-ethanol in it whenever I can and get around 12 all day, I would call myself a spirited driver, I like the skinny pedal and I love the wail of that V10. As far as mileage goes I got 13.7 on a trip from NY to FL with 5 adults in the cab and the bed full stuff for a 10 day vacation with a lot of 70-80 mph driving. I average 10.5 pulling, I live in western NY so its somewhat hilly, and the best I've seen is 15 mpg on the highway around home, but like I tell the uneducated sheeple at the pumps, I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. This is my second V10 and if I can continue find clean ones I will continue to run them until Ford can get their act together and put together a good diesel engine. I wish Ford still made the V10 because mine walks away from my brothers extended cab 6.2 F250, the V10 was given a bad rap by sheeple because of it's mileage and I thinks it's unfair, it's a vary capable and reliable alternative and I love mine, thanx for reading my ramblings cheers!

Strange that the V10 isn't on the list of available engines. I love my truck. I've owned it for 5 years now, and its up to 256000 kms on it. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Only problem i had was the switch for the 4x4 crapped out. cost $150 to fix. No biggy. While the V10 does not get the best mileage, it makes up in dependability and power. I can pretty much pull anything. Tons of passing power. Tons of room in the back seat. My truck has the 100 liter gas tank, so its a little smaller than your average tank. I would highly recommend this truck to anybody looking for a dependable full size truck.

I really don't understand why there are so many ford haters on here. I've owned 2 F-150's the 5.4 and whatever the V6 is the 5.4 was a gem I loved it until a 16 year old T-Boned me at 60mph and that's what it took to kill it. The V6 for how bad I beat the snot out of it still runs like a champ. My two work trucks the 2002 7.3L f250 has 180,000 on it and its just starting to have transmission problems. The second being the 2006 6L f350 dump truck and my god that thing is amazing. I've had that thing grossly over-weight with a full bed a 12 foot dump trailer with 8000+ lbs in it through the city on the highway up a dirt hill had no problems. I've loved all my fords and will never look back!!!!

Started out with noises from my motor the first few weeks of ownership and Ford could find no problems. When I'm on the highway and I hit a pothole or the road changes from asphalt to concrete my truck SHAKES like the wheels are going to fall off. It's so bad it makes my kids cry. The dealership broke the spark plugs off while trying to do a tune-up and wanted me to pay $2k to take the motor apart. Then the A/C went out and now only blows on high. Now my motor is locked up! I pull an 18' trailer with a ride on trencher and my truck struggles big time! This is my second ford truck that is an undependable, under powered, gas guzzling, safety risk that I wish upon nobody!

The 6.0 liter diesel is a nightmare. The Canadian ones seem to be fine, but the American ones have lots of problems. Batteries die, fuel injection problems, stuttering engine. If you're going to buy a warranty - purchase the Ford one only. We made the mistake of purchasing the dealership one and we've had lots of out of pocket expenses. I can't go two months without something going wrong.

Overall a nice truck, until it gets a few miles. I bought two within 4 months. The first truck - no problems until 107K, then a high press oil pump and inter-cooler ($2,500, Ford offered to pay $500, but shop was 2-3 weeks backed up) and needs a front end ($1,500). Second truck - 130K miles then high press oil pump = another $1,500. Bought a '08 in April 2009, if the same problems occur, I will be finished with the F-250. Great truck, just trade before 100K.

The Power Stroke is an awesome engine! This is the only truck I have owned that not only holds it's own but actually accelerates going uphill weather towing or on it's own. My wife has fallen in love with this truck in less time than it took her to fall in love with me! And she cried when we traded off her other truck, now she would not trade this truck for the world, I think she would shoot me first! The BEST truck we have ever owned! And that is saying a lot because I have a 1997 F-150 that has been so great it is still running on the original battery!

This '06 Super Duty Diesel replaced my '95 F250 460 V8, and the improvement in comfort, fuel mileage and build quality is amazing. We tow a 4,500lb enclosed trailer all the time in our home business, and I needed something that would do it as well as our other truck had for so many years. I have driven Chevy Duramax trucks, and love the engine/trans combo they have... but their smaller cab space, poor layout and styling were such that I ended up going with the Ford. We added a mild chip to it, as the stock motor is pretty poky compared to other newer diesels. It also improved our fuel mileage from 11/15 to 13/17. Beware of chipping too hard, as the 6.0L isn't built as heavy as the 7.3L.

Unfortunately this is my 2nd F-250 King Ranch with Power Stroke, Ford bought back my 2003 F-350 because they couldn't keep it out of the shop. I mistakenly accepted the 2006, should have taken the cash and went and bought Chevy or Dodge. Won't make that mistake again. We pull 3horse slant Xiss living qtrs trailer with it, and the truck just can't get the job done. Wife has had to off-load horses on the side of freeway twice, and I missed deer camp in 2006. Blows turbo tubes on regular basis, and Ford Motor Co. is terrible at customer relations. Dealership has been great, but again Ford Motor Co. is awful...Tell everyone you know stay away from the Power Stroke.

I am actually writing this about my Father's experience with his 2006 F250 4X4 Gas Pickup. Overall he is pleased with the truck except one serious issue, which I believe is limited to the gas engine model of the 2006 F250. If you hit a rough patch of pavement the truck will virtually bounce and skip all over the road out of control. There are many complaints of this issue on the internet. Ford has TSB for this issue but it does not fix the issue. Has anyone found a fix? A local front end shop says they may be able to fix it with different springs. Seems Ford uses the same springs for the Gas and Diesel models, but the Diesel weighs almost twice as much, which causes excessive rebound.

My wife even loves to drive this truck and to pass people to kick in the V10 engine under the hood. Unfortunately it only gets 9 to 10 mpg combination of highway city and alot of gravel. 4x4 has been great this last couple of months in Iowa winter. Pulls anything you put behind it. Two kids have more than enough room in the back. Has more interior room than a Chevy or Dodge. Will be installing gooseneck hitch. This was been my dream truck now I have it. I don't have the trouble with bumps in the road jerking the truck or the vibrating of the truck that may just be mud in the rims like other people have had. Can't wait to buy another one someday.

I needed a truck with 4WD and some power to pull my 30 foot 5th wheel trailer, plus have room for the grandkids or dogs. This does all that. The worst fuel mileage has been 11 mpg, which I feel is good for such a heavy truck pulling a load thru the mountains. It did have a few gremlins at first (4 visits to dealer), but those have been taken care of, i.e., Turbo sensor, fuel pump module.

This truck just does everything i need it to do. I pull a gooseneck trailer a lot plus my boat and van trailer. Multiple states and areas, this truck is and has been problem free. This diesel motor is excellent, some have claimed problems with it but my experience is great. Change the oil and go. I added a 60 gallon fuel tank/tool box combo in the bed and I love it. I can go 1600 miles between fill ups.

THE roughest riding, poorest handling, noisiest, under-powered, gas-guzzling beast I have ever driven in my life. I totally HATE it. On city pavement at any speed, the truck shakes, shudders, jolts, and vibrates at any bump in the road. Woefully underpowered 5.4 V8 is a boat anchor. Pathetic in city traffic. Simply trying to merge or pass in rush hour traffic is all the adrenaline rush I need each day. Have to jam the pedal through the floorboard just to get the sloth move. Handles like a bicycle. Noisy. Hear every item stored in the door pockets rattle. Size makes parking a nightmare. If you're towing a barge on a daily basis, maybe this is the truck for you. Can’t wait to get rid of it.

Great truck. Tows excellent, good mileage, well made - I have the 6.0 diesel engine with auto transmission - quiet compared to Dodge and seems to be a better engine than my last two F-250's that had the 7.3 diesel engine. Don't like where the fuel system water drain is located but that is a minor inconvenience. Lots of room inside, and it has plenty of power.

I put a 4.5" tuff country lift and 37" BFG ATs. It handles well and stops great, excellent pickup for a gas pushing large tires. Got 12-13mpg stock and 10mpg lifted. Needs odometer recalibration and higher gears (3.73 now), opting for 4.10 this week. Pulling a 1,600lb boat is a chore for transmission, can't keep up with tires, should change with gear swap. Fun to drive and turns excellent. Got stuck in 4 feet of water, sand, and muck in central IL.One trip to the dealer and she runs perfect, just needed a little cleaning.

This truck is awesome. It is everything Ford advertises it as and nothing more. Power from the v-10 is very comparable to my previous 460 big block. This is the best gasoline engine ever to come in a truck. The 6 speed manual works great and has probably the lightest smoothest clutch I have ever felt, while still handling the big power. The solid 1 ton axles can handle anything and the suspension rides firm and stable, just like a truck should. The gas mileage may only be 11-13 but that is the trade off you get with 355 horsepower and a heavy duty truck.

This is the third Ford truck I've owned and they just keep getting better. Even the wife loves it (and drives it). The handling is smooth. Rides like a car but works like a truck. Suspension is firm but not bumpy. Corners tight (for a truck) and looks pretty when it's clean. Gas mileage is decent for its size and the interior is nice, quiet and has everything I need. Never had trouble with the old one (1994) and the way I follow the routine scheduled maintenance, I don't anticipate trouble with this one either.

I love this truck. I definitely recommend getting the diesel. Gets better gas mileage than the Toyota Sequoia I replaced. The build quality is excellent. The FX4 package rides a little stiff at first but gets better with time. It's designed to haul a lot of stuff and rides better as you add weight. I love the fold away rear seat with the fold out flat platform. It does not feel any larger than a regular SUV when driving. I enjoy being able to see over and around other cars for safety reasons. The view makes it easier to anticipate making defensive moves. I also took a direct hit in the rear from a stretch limo with minor cosmetic damage (limo was damaged heavily). I hardly felt it.

This truck was supposed to be the best one ever for hauling my 26' car hauler trailer around the USA. Plenty of power, fair gas mileage and easy to drive. All of these things are true. However, the seat comfort on long hauls is terrible. The seats in the XLT are the shortest (from the backrest to the front edge of the seat) offered in the Big Three 3/4 ton lineup. This short seat puts my legs to sleep (the front edge of the seat hits me way before my knees) on long hauls and I am selling the truck because of continuing comfort and back problems. Other than the seats and comfort, it is a good, solid truck.

06' F250 SD SB Turbo Diesel fully loaded! I tow a 12k pound toy hauler with no problems. I live in Big Bear and have to climb a mountain with a 16% grade. I love this truck and would recommend it to anyone towing a heavy load. Not towing I get 18-20 MPG @ 80 MPH - towing up the grade I get about 11- 13 MPG. Built in brake controller sets this truck over the top. I have seen the new style 2008 pics and am not thrilled with the styling. I test drove a Dodge, Chevy, and GMC and Ford had the best feeling truck and comfort. I do like the style of the GMC/Chevy interior, but Ford blew the competition away overall. If buying look into the Ford SD!

I actually have a 2006 F-350 V-10 4X4 Crewcab with FX4 4:30 limited slip rear. This is my 3rd Super Duty since 1999. My 1999 5.4 and 2001 6.8 both went over 125k miles with no mechanical problems. This new 6.8 3V is awesome. I get 11.5 mpg around town and a high of 15+ mpg on the hwy at 70mph. With this power and performance I did not need a PSD. All three Super Duty's were quality built. It's an extremely solid truck. Don't expect great gas mileage from a 362HP/ 475 ft. lbs torque motor moving a piece of Ford Kentucky plant iron that weighs 7,000lbs.

I traded in a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 for this 2006 Ford F-250 XLT Turbo Diesel SuperDuty Crew Cab 4x4 to better handle my towing needs. Boy! What a difference! While the Ranger worked really hard, this F-250 makes towing a breeze, heck, I can hardly tell I'm towing. I was getting 15mpg on the Ranger, not towing, whereas the F-250 is getting 14mpg - I'm told that this will improve as the vehicle gets more miles. Towing the Ranger averaged about 10mpg, and the F-250 is averaging 12mpg. The F-250 is much more comfortable than the Ranger, but the Ranger, being a smaller vehicle, was easier to park and maneuver. I'll be taking a 5000 mile trip with the trailer this summer - I can't wait!

Much improved from my 2002. Surprising acceleration for such a heavy truck. Haven't found anything I can't tow with it. Of the 3 HD truck lines, Ford still has the most creature comforts, excellent for a work truck but great to haul around the family as well, especially on long trips with a 5th wheel.

I got this truck just a short while ago have put about 4k miles on it so far. It is by far the best truck I have used to date. I am an automotive technology teacher and this truck has all most none of the common issues that others have had in the past. I have the 5.4 three valve and as far as the power goes it has it in the right operating range. The 5 speed auto does very well and the tow haul function beats the OD off any day. But it is a truck and so many people want these to be soft and cushier and it's not. I wanted a truck to use and this does it perfectly. I pull my horse trailer and haul all the things for the farm no problems. I had 2500 lbs of feed and never knew it was even in the bed.

My Ford F-250 is like a powerhouse on the road. When I am driving it I feel on top of the world. For starters, it's beautiful. Sleek design. The ride is smooth. Other truck drivers watch as I pass them by. It's a sweet piece of machine and I am so happy that I went with a Ford. The diesel is awesome! It's a strong and loud truck and you hear can hear me coming down the road from inside the house. I highly recommend this truck to anyone who likes truck driving.

This truck has plenty of power to pull anything the average person needs to. It rides very good and the creature comforts are excellent.

I have the 6.0 v8 Powerstroke diesel engine and it has unbelievable pickup and power for a big truck. It handles very well on all road conditions and looks and feels great.

I Love This Truck!

This truck is awesome, people turn their heads and are so jealous and it's so reliable and is worth it's weight in gold! I would never buy any other truck. Everything I ask of the truck it does and I have about 40,000 miles on it and not one problem. I've driven cross country in scorching heat and never did it ever attempt to overheat. But the person who I was driving with was driving a Chevy and it had less miles and it did overheat!

Great Quality Built Truck

First Ford I have ever owned and I have been very pleased with its quality inside and out compared to all the GMC and Chevy trucks I have owned in the past 25 years. I don't expect this full size truck to get great mileage. But I know it is a better built truck then those I have previously owned. I bought it because of better price. I was worried, but it has been a really good choice for me.
