I am only 18 and this is the second car I've gone thru. I had a 98 camry that tranny blew out on so I got this off craigslist. The only good thing i can say is I spent 900 bucks on it. Were do i begin, the day after I bought it the drivers window went then a few days later the o2 senors went within the weeks after that problems ranging from a faulty alarm to the air suspension breaking. As of today I bought another car making this my third car in my only short year of driving. I thought the continental would be a great buy with the nice luxurious feel but boy was i wrong. This weekend i will be junking the car getting what I can for it. got it with 144,590 junking it with 145,718.

GOOD for the USED PRICED

I got this care used with 350,000 KM on it as I needed a cheap car for a new driver in my family. Paid just1,000 bucks for it. The engine still runs like a clock, tranny is still OK; hope the tranny will last for couple of more years... Evrything (except driver's eat not being heated and the rear window) is working in this 14 year old car!!! It has lots of power and cruising nicely on the highway. My family loves this car and prefers to drive it to a much newer ones! I've had to fix the rocker panels as they were rusted through, painted the car and it looks very good now. I know it is old, but I still can't think of it as a clunker... Gas milege in the city is a pain of course with gas $

Love my Lincoln Continental

I bought my Lincoln Continental with 81000 miles, and this car is awesome! It was 12 years old, and it runs like a champ. I got it for a steal...$3000. This car is the most awesome car I have owned. I came from a Taurus SHO (which I love still) and this car rides like its on a pillow. I love that I can adjust everything (ride, steering, seats, sunroof, etc). If you can find one for a steal, pick it up. I now have 185,000 miles, and it still runs like a champ. And, everyone thinks its only 2 years old. I pamper my cars. Nothing better than a Ford product!!! I get 19.8 MPG city, 29.7 MPG hwy. Out of a V8...purely awesome!

Bought with 37k miles and car was only driven 2800 miles per year. Florida car and I have driven 10k in the first year. Car has plenty of power and runs great on the 4.6L 32 valve. Transmission was changed out but sometimes hunts for the OD gear on highway. Tracking on car at highway speeds is wonderful. Assisted steering is great. No stress driving long miles on highway. 26MPG on highway and 19MPG around town. Ride comfort is 10 out of 10. I changed out the original tires as they were dry rotted and replaced with Michlin MXV4 - drives even better! 13 year old car and very little so far for issues. Tie rods are dry and will be replaced soon. Very common on this car.

I have 113,000 miles & except for tune ups (which I do myself) & a paint job, the car runs great. It's fast (4.6v8) yet I get 17mp city & 24hwy, for a 1997 it still purrrrs like new. Also I change the oil & filter every 3 thousand miles.

A super car. I owned a 1993 Continental and felt it was underpowered, with the V-8 the problem was solved. The car was purchased new and presently has 146,000 miles. It runs great. The only major problem is the electrical; always a door ajar and the interior lights stay on. Help! I have replaced a hub bearing, starter, alternator, brakes, and power steering pump.

A great second owner car!

This is the best overall car we have ever owned. A great used car bargin! At over 40K new the interior build quality is not there. We have put almost 100K on our car and other than replacing most of the front suspension parts we have had no problems. At about 80K miles parts of this car will let you know it was built in the Dearborn area! We would buy another if they still produced them.

Enjoyed the pick up and reliability of the vehicle. the pearl finish was excellent except for some paint peeling on the door bumpers. The select areas for fiberglass was a good choice and eliminated any potential rust areas. The auto recall on the seats was enormously helpful since I've driven some without.

Have always driven high end cars & saw this with 48,000 mi on it and want it. Got it for $7,200--No regrets. Great power, extremely reliable & very comfortable for short or long trips. Have 115,000 mi on it now with just regular routine maintenance, new brakes, new tires & new headliner. Exellent cost benefits ratio car to drive when bought used. Combined 20- 21 mpg at 60%/40% highway/city, not bad at all.

Quite a ride for $2,900.00!!!

I bought a 1997 used Lincoln Continental for a measly 2900 bucks in December of 2004. It has proven itself to be a reliable, comfortable, and quick automobile. I have put about 22000 miles on it in a year and 3 months and the only repairs it required were brakes and a set of tie rod ends. It also is fairly economical for a large sedan with a V8, I get about 22.5 MPG average.

Great Vehicle!

We had to replace brakes (rotors on front too) at 40,000 miles, and the air conditioning was replaced at this time as well. We purchased this car used with 40,000 miles on it, so it could have been due to the previous driver. However, we also have one plug that gets oil in it way before time for a tune-up, especially if driven for a trip of any distance over 400 or 500 miles. Maintenance cost is much higher than for many cars. However, this car has POWER and is a very good ride. It steers and handles great. All the little perks (compass, auto-adjustment of seat and mirrors for the driver, etc.) are great.

I have to say my Lincoln is the best car I have owned. There is nothing like a big luxury car. Ride and performance are exceptional. The black paint is decent for the 110,000 miles on it. I have recently had the rear- view mirror problem everyone else is experiencing. Also, the front passenger door has a bad connection which causes the door to show ajar when it is not. This is not a big deal except the interior lights come on when stopped. If anyone can tell me how to economically replace the rear-view mirror, I would appreciate it. I would defineately buy another, though. Great car!

I bought this car with 50,000 miles at one quarter of the original new price- i.e., ten grand for a 40 grand car with 50,000 miles. So far it has been a great large sedan. I wanted a large comfortable car with front wheel drive to commute in and for frequent trips where I take people and "stuff"...have put 16,000 miles on it and only brake work so far and transmission fluid changes...

Not a bad car, I enjoy the ride, and looks. The major problem I've been experiencing is the alarm goes off at any given time. I've taken the car to the dealer on two occassions, since they can't duplicate the problem there's not much they can do. I believe the problem is in the ignition. When I shut the car off the alarm sounds. The door ajar does not go on. If anyone is aware of the cause, please e-mail me.

This is my second Lincoln my first one was a 93 Town Car, and so far this car well exceeds my expectations. The rear view mirror needs to be replaced, but it is still useable. It also needed 2 O2 sensors but the dealership replaced both. The car is a joy and and a pleasure to drive. The steering is effortless and the ride is just as stated plush. And for the 6,200.00 price tag it has been a bargain so far.

Great power for a big car. Great trunk size. I always had trouble with brakes every 20M miles. rear view mirror stopped working and will cost $500 to replace. I haven't, still looking for a used one. Other than that, still a great car. I have 95M now. I'd buy another one, but they stopped making them.

I bought the car when it was 2 years old for 20K. Had 2 years left on warranty, which I only used to have the rearview mirror replaced (seems to be a chronic problem with these cars). Car has been reliable, gets up and goes, and gets good mileage considering the size and power. Its a geezer car, but I don't care

Bought it at half price (got to love that depreciation.) Very comfortable and I absolutely love the exterior design. It has great acceleration with the V8, and you're doing 80 before you know it. I get about 24 mpg on the highway, about 20 in the city. Auto-dimming rearview mirror had to be repaired at 54000. Wrecked it shortly thereafter, both airbags deployed and worked fine. Dashboard designed to deploy airbags without self-destructing, which would have totaled it out. Replaced steering pump 1 yr later (under ext. warranty) but this may have been damaged in the wreck. I love this car, even though I'm 32, and will buy another Lincoln, but will get a good 3rd party ext. warranty.

1997 Lincoln Continental - a great car.

This is a nice, solid, dependable, good on gas for the size car. There is plenty of luxury in itand I found the best buy for the money was this car (I bought it off lease with a few miles on it). Nevertheless, this car is really comfortable, and it can get onto a highway with the shortest of ramps and out of anyone's way with ease. Surprisingly, it got better gas mileage than advertised. In 3 years nothing needed service beyond the norm. I also felt that this was a very safe car to have kids in, especially because it has 5 shoulder straps.
